Greg G. “Howard” Howard, 63, a resident of Elizabethtown, Indiana, passed from this life at 11:10 p.m. Friday, December 24, 2021, at his home.

Greg was born December 31, 1957, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Donald E. and Joann Catherine Miller Howard. On October 23, 1982, Greg married Beverly I. Petro; Greg and Bev spent 34 years together before her passing October 13, 2016.

Greg graduated from Columbus East High School May 21, 1978. Greg was employed by the City of Columbus, he worked at the city garage for 26 years, retiring September 14, 2012.

Greg always enjoyed roasting a hog and raising a large garden. The best party he did was roasting for the Charles “Red” Whittington World War II Iron Men of Metz Memorial Bridge celebration. Greg enjoyed hunting with his grandson and son-in-law and donating food to the Love Chapel and friends and family. He loved cooking breakfast, especially his sausage gravy, fried taters, and red tomatoes. He loved to go mushroom hunting with his best friend, Carol, he also liked to go ginseng hunting. Greg looked forward to the holidays and playing Santa Claus. He never missed his grandson, Ethan’s baseball games and he was a member of Moose Lodge No. 398 and the Eagles Lodge No. 741.

Greg is survived by his daughters, Kristy (Bradley) Kelso of Hope and Amanda Jean (Jaime) Hernandez of Deputy; grandchildren, Brent Adams, Michael (Jessica) Ford, Cory Petro, Danzic (Heaven) Petro, Nathaniel Petro, Ethan Hernandez, and Maddie Hernandez; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Timothy Ray (Debbie Gentry) Howard of Elizabethtown.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Joann Catherine Howard; his loving wife of 34 years, Beverly Howard; and brothers, Alvin E., Allen Lee, and Larry Dale Howard.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with E. Reeves Flint officiating. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at barkesweaverglick.com.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Greg will be laid to rest next to his wife at Bear Creek Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
