Shelbyville driver dies in I-74 crash

SHELBYVILLE — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a semi and passenger car reported at 3:23 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 74 at the 104 mile marker.

A semi registered to Ryder/Amazon driven by Temirlan Baizakov, 21, Chicago, was traveling west on I-74, deputies said. The semi driver said he had a light load and was driving in heavy wind.

Baizakov said due to the wind he lost control of the semi, which swerved, flipped over and skidded into the median on its side, deputies said. Part of the trailer was blocking the left lane of Interstate 74.

The driver stated he was not injured and was attempting to exit the semi when he heard a collision to the semi’s trailer, deputies said.

The semi-trailer was struck by a silver Mercedes being driven by Gary E. Oldham Jr., 30, of Shelbyville, deputies said. There was heavy damage to the front driver side of the vehicle and Oldham was entrapped. Oldham was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
