COLUMBUS
Miriam E. Gordon, 84, of Columbus, passed away at 2:41 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility. Miriam was born on December 8, 1937 in Glen Dale, WV to John Webb and Alma Jones Webb. She married James R. Gordon on October 15, 1954.
The couple had four sons. Miriam worked at home when they were small and later attended Indiana Business College. She was employed at Central Middle School and later worked for Cummins Engine Company in the purchasing department. She also worked in the tax department until her retirement in 1992.
Miriam was a member of First United Methodist Church. In her earlier years she loved bowling and participated in several leagues. She also loved watching all sports especially Indiana University and Purdue University Basketball. She enjoyed traveling and boating with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Grandview Lake.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Entombment will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
Survivors include her sons, James R. (Brenda) Gordon Jr. of Columbus, IN., Robert D. (Pamela) Gordon of Bloomington, IN., Glen E. (Donna) Gordon of Columbus, IN., Mark A. (Janie) Gordon of Columbus, IN.; grandchildren, Richard (Lesli) Gordon, Scott (Michelle) Gordon, Brent (Sara) Gordon, Robert (Randi) Gordon, Stefanie (Joshua) Vargo, Allison (Jon) Cline, Erin Gordon, Andrew Gordon, Amy (Aaron) Shaff, Christopher (Kayla) Gordon and 17 great-grandchildren.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Gordon on March 18, 2020; brothers, William, James and Charles Webb; sisters, Alma Jean McCombs, Kathryn Criswell and Anna Marie Bonovich.
