Karen K. Chavis, 61 of Indianapolis, formerly of Columbus, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her home. Karen was born February 19, 1960 in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late William and Lura (Ezold) Elwood. She was a 1978 graduate of Columbus North High School. Karen enjoyed attending concerts especially those of Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20. She was a proud mother and she was especially excited to see her grandchildren grow spending as much time with them as possible. Karen retired from Cummins, Inc. after 20 years of service. Surviving are her sons, Ryan (Amber) Chavis of Terre Haute, IN; and Thomas (Julia) Chavis of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Elaina; Brianna; Korbin; and Nikolai; and sister, Janice Childers of AL. She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Salinas; and brother, David Lee Elwood. Funeral service is 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home 3855 25th Street Columbus with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the funeral home.
