COLUMBUS
Dorothy M. Shelton, 84, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, went to be with the Lord at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Shelton was born Christmas Day, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the loving daughter of Virgil J. and Wilma F. Terrell Mitchell. On September 1, 1951, Dorothy married Delvin Ray Shelton; he preceded her in death September 25, 2011.
A homemaker, Mrs. Shelton worked at Cosco Inc, later Dorel Juvenile Group retiring after 25 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Garden City. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and tending to her flower garden. She cherished her grandchildren, and she will be remembered as someone who loved the Lord with all of her heart and was dedicated to her church.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Darla Shelton of Columbus, Delores Shelton of Columbus, and Denise (Brett) Kimberlin of Columbus; grandchildren, Kristi, Amanda, Tasha, Curtis, Emily, and Bryce; great-grandchildren, Brentyn, Thomas, Lilly, Abygail, Katelyn, Kinsey, Jacob, and Jonah; sisters, Mary Frazier of Phoenix, Arizona and Anna (Larry) Young-Neal of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Wilma Mitchell; husband, Delvin; son, Dale Ray Shelton; great-granddaughter, Kristi; two brothers; and four sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Dale Lucas will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service may be seen at barkesweaverglick.com.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shelton will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
