Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has adopted a new long-term strategic plan.

The school board approved “BCSC Strategic Plan 2026” at its meeting Monday. The plan states that BCSC’s vision is to be the district of choice to “learn, work and play.” Additionally, the school corporation’s mission statement is to “develop expert learners by partnering with our community to invest in people.”

The document lists core belief statements, which highlight values such as flexibility, social and emotional well being, collaboration, diversity, civic duty and high expectations.

There are also three focus areas — excellence and high expectations; healthy, safe and welcoming environments; and pathways to success — and six strategic initiatives. Each strategic initiative includes objectives and methods for implementation.

The initiatives are as follows:

Ensure equitable access and achievement

Attract and retain a diverse, high-quality staff

Meet physical, social and psychological needs of students and staff

Invest in welcoming, safe and inclusive facilities

Increase opportunities for participation in existing pathways

Utilize partnerships to establish additional pathways

In addition to outlining the school corporation’s values and goals, the strategic plan also includes new branding elements, such as using “Together We Learn” as BCSC’s new tagline.

“We believe that that is an indicator of inclusion, openness, unity and partnership,” said Superintendent Jim Roberts.

The plan also presents a new logo for BCSC, which he described as a cross between a stylized check mark and roadway. The check represents the “choice of togetherness,” and its four stripe segments represents families, students, staff and community members working together.

“The road-like quality is signifying the different pathways that we offer our students,” Roberts said.

As noted in his presentation, the strategic planning process included community and stakeholder engagement. It was informed by a number of focus groups, survey responses and design workshops.

The strategic plan was also presented to staff during a recent professional development day, said the superintendent. There was then an opportunity for them to provide input.

“This is a document that will continue to evolve,” Roberts told the school board. “It should be an active document and one that we’ll continue to try to move forward and improve all the time.”
