Four Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. students have qualified for national competitions that showcase student leadership and initiative.

High school students Morgan Allen, Caylyn Pruitt, Alaney Parker and Molly Bray competed in Students Taking Action Recognition (STAR) events at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference.

All four placed “Gold” and qualified to compete at FCCLA’s National Leadership Conference in San Diego. The convention will take place from June 29 to July 3.

Allen is a senior at Columbus North; Parker and Pruitt are sophomores there. Bray is a sophomore at East. All four represented North’s FCCLA club at the state competition.

“These young women are a great example of leaders and entrepreneurs of Columbus,” BCSC officials said of the four qualifying for nationals.

FCCLA defines STAR as events in which members compete at the regional, state and national level and are “recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.” Students can compete individually or as a team.

According to the organization, “There are more than 30 STAR Events students can choose to compete in, all which recognize participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to actively identify an issue concerning families, careers, or communities, research the topic, and develop and implement a project to advocate for positive change.”
