Scruggs picked for All-Star Classic

Columbus North senior defensive back Jaxson Scruggs has been selected to play in this year’s Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Classic July 15 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Scruggs recorded 51 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries and returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown and ranked among the state leaders with 809 kickoff and punt return yards last fall in helping the Bull Dogs to the Conference Indiana title and earning Class 6A Senior All-State honors.

Scruggs has committed to continue his career at Indiana Wesleyan.

Bodart to play football at DePauw

Columbus North senior Trent Bodart has committed to continue his football career at DePauw.

Bodart, who played high school football for the first time last fall, recorded 22 tackles and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Assistants get head coaching jobs

Two local fall sports assistant coaches are leaving for head coaching jobs at other schools.

Tyler Bless, who has been an assistant football coach at Columbus North the past three years, is the coach-in-waiting at Plainfield. Bless will join Brian Woodard’s staff this fall, then take over as head coach when Woodard retires after this season.

Longtime Hauser assistant volleyball coach Scott Sage is taking over as head coach at Crothersville, his alma mater.

Bull Dogs named All-Conference

Two members of the Conference Indiana champion Columbus North gymnastics team have been selected All-Conference.

Senior Emily Moore and freshman Reese Euler made the first team. North co-coach Kaitlyn Rediker is the Conference Indiana Gymnastics Coach of the Year.

Locals make All-HHC team

Jennings County junior Keegan Manowitz has been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference boys basketball first team.

Columbus East juniors Will Rieckers and Ben Sylva are honorable mention selections. Jennings seniors Carson McNulty and Tyler Vogel and junior Owen Law also made honorable mention.

All-Area All-Star Games scheduled

This year’s All-Area All-Star Games, which feature players chosen to The Republic All-Area Boys and Girls Basketball teams, will be split into two separate nights.

The boys game will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Columbus Christian. The girls game will be at 7 p.m. March 28, also at Columbus Christian.

The All-Area teams will appear in The Republic and therepublic.com in the next couple of weeks.
