Letter: Facts about Rep. Greg Pence reasons for voting him out

From: JoAnne Rother

Perhaps The Republic readers who supported DeWayne Hines’ March 23 letter (“Rep. Greg Pence earns vote for reflecting local values”) should brush up on the facts before calling The Republic biased and Greg Pence a paragon of patriotism. Here are some facts that Pence supporters might not want to hear:

Fact: Rep. Greg Pence aligned himself with other Republicans in voting against humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The original bill had two parts: humanitarian aid and military spending. Pence voted for the military spending portion and against humanitarian aid.

Fact: The omnibus bill that Mr. Hines called a product of Nancy Pelosi’s hijacking was negotiated for several months. Last-minute changes were made in an effort to avert a government shutdown. The bill did pass with bipartisan support. Pence has aides paid by taxpayer money to help him understand legislation. Maybe Pence needs better staffers to help him review a bill instead of using the excuse that he didn’t have time to review it.

Fact: Greg Pence has taken credit for positive efforts of Democrats to alleviate COVID-related economic suffering, including the American Rescue Plan and the American Jobs Plan. Now that the county can reap the benefits of economic aid, he’s all in, hoping that his constituents will forget that he voted against these bills.

Fact: Let’s not forget Pence’s support of the Jan. 6 insurrection. Greg Pence voted to reject the state-certified election results of Arizona and Pennsylvania, thereby discounting their electoral votes in an effort to change the Presidential election results. And if anyone had reason to investigate the origins of the Jan. 6 insurrection, you would think he would. However, he voted against this commission. Supporting the Jan. 6 insurrection is not my idea of upholding the constitution and patriotic values.

Fact: Greg Pence counts on voters to forget the facts. Let’s hope the residents of the 6th Congressional District take time to learn the facts and vote him out of office this year.
