Lancers blank Cubs

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh won four matches in straight sets and another by forfeit Friday in opening the season with a 5-0 win against Madison.

Bethany Burton blanked Erin Burkhardt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Jessica Walsh beat Trinity Stoner 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers. Edinburgh won the No. 3 singles match by forfeit.

The Lancers’ Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant downed Paige Sentney and Riley Poling 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida topped Alexa Davis and Michelle Laguna-Rafael 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

South Decatur wins

GREENSBURG — South Decatur picked up its first win of the season, a 14-4, five-inning victory against Indiana Deaf.

Loryn Pate threw a two-hitter and had two RBIs for the Cougars (1-1). Madison Mikulec went 2 for 2 with a double, Lakota Henry went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Molly Eden went 2 for 3 with two RBIs

Trinity tops JCD

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran improved to 3-0 with a 6-2 win against Jac-Cen-Del.

Grace Lance threw a five-hitter and struck out eight for the Cougars. Trinity pounded out nine hits, including two apiece by Bailey Tabeling and Madison Keith.

Eagles fall to Owls

SEYMOUR — Brown County led 6-5 after 4 1/2 innings, but Seymour scored 11 times in the bottom of the fifth to post a 16-6, five-inning victory.

Savannah Oden went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI for the Eagles (0-2).
