Dr. Arthur Carl Jay

INDIANAPOLIS, IN

Arthur C. Jay MD, passed away on March 21, 2022 at the Clearvista Lake Health Campus at the age of 84 of natural causes. He was born in Indianapolis to the late Arthur N. Jay MD and Hilda Jordan Jay.

Art graduated from Shortridge, where he wrestled; Butler University, where he did the shot put and discus; and Indiana School of Medicine. He served in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington where he was General Medical officer and Chief of the Physical Exam Section. Art did his residency in Pathology at Methodist Hospital and Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. At Ball Hospital he was a partner in Pathology Associated Laboratories and Director of Blood Bank, Immunology-Serology and Microbiology. In this capacity, Art developed and implemented many procedures.

At Bartholomew County Hospital he was Director of Chemistry, Immunology-Serology and Microbiology. In 1991 Art joined the Heaton, Heaton, Alcorn practice in King’s Daughters Hospital, Dearborn County Hospital and Scott County Hospital and practiced at Dearborn County Hospital Lawrenceburg Indiana retiring in 2008, also serving as Health Officer in Ohio County. He served as President of the Medical Staff at all three hospitals.

Art was active in both civic and many professional organizations. He published many articles, gave many presentations and did inspections for the College of American Pathologists and The American Association of Blood Banks. Art was an avid bike rider and rode in many different rides in Southern Indiana. He especially liked the Hope Ride in Hope, IN. Art had also dabbled in furniture making and refinishing, making model airplanes and restoring old houses, the last one having been built in the 1850’s.

He is survived by his wife, Carlyanna Lindberg Jay; his children, Arthur Jay, Elizabeth Jay DVM, Lydia Jay (Byron Weiss) and Alex Jay; grandchildren, Ingrid Weiss and Erik Weiss; brother, Stephen Jay MD (Anne) and 3 nephews and 1 niece. There will be no services.
