East sweeps Seymour

SEYMOUR — Columbus East’s boys and girls picked up their first dual meet wins of the season Tuesday. The Olympian boys beat Seymour 80-52, and the East girls prevailed 72-60.

Emma Gray won the long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 100 meters and 300 hurdles to lead the Olympian girls. Megan Tracy took shot put and discus, Gabbie Meier captured the pole vault, Mallory Rupp in the won the 200 and East took the 4×100 relay.

For the boys, Anthony Lloyd won the high jump (6 feet) and 100 (11.46 seconds), and Jacob Guse took the shot (48-5) and discus (132-6). Charlie Russell captured the 100 hurdles (16.7), Tommy Anderson won the 400 (54.3), Henrique Carvalho took the 300 hurdles (43.5), Rocco Duffy captured the 200 (24.1) and the Olympians won the 4×100 (44.4) and 4×400 (3:39) relays.

Eagle teams third

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County’s boys and girls both finished third in a tri meet at Bloomington North. The host Cougars won the boys meet with 93 points to 27 for Bedford North Lawrence and 12 for the Eagles, and the Bloomington North girls won with 101 points to 23 for BNL and eight for Brown County.

The Eagles’ Chase Austin won the boys 1,600 in 4:37.09. Xyleigh Thompson took the girls high jump with a leap of 4-10.

BASEBALL

East falls to Irish

WESTFIELD — Columbus East led 5-1 after four innings, but Class 4A No. 10 Cathedral scored 10 times in the fifth and went on to claim an 11-5 victory at Grand Park.

Dylan Niese went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Olympians (1-2-1). Will Rieckers had a double.

Crusaders get 1st win

Cam Pritchard threw a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Columbus Christian to its first win of the season, a 13-3, five-inning victory against Indianapolis Tindley.

Peyton Rehlander went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Crusaders (1-1-1). Gabe Ridder had a triple and two RBIs, and Izak Hargis had two RBIs.

Trojans top Lancers

GREENWOOD — Edinburgh held 4A No. 4 Center Grove scoreless in the first inning, but the Trojans scored 15 times in the second and went on to post a 20-0, five-inning victory in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Ian Buchanan had the lone hit for the Lancers (0-2).

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers edge Jets

NORTH VERNON — Hauser won both doubles matches, but Jennings County swept the singles matches to pull out a 3-2 victory.

Reagan Brown beat Bella Kilps 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles Tatum Brown topped Lydia Jordan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Lucy Brown defeated Addyson Barriger 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (1-0).

For the Jets (0-2), Gabby Johns and Charlie Clark beat Amy Vogel and Maria Ecker Alberti 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Mattie Foster and Gracie Blair topped Caitlyn Schuck and Lily Schildknecht 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers blank Eagles

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County opened its season with a 5-0 loss at Bloomington South.

Anna Stogsdill fell to Briah O’Neil 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles. Anna Tipton lost to Hailey Vandeventer at No. 2 singles, and Mattie Satter fell to Ava Rupp at No. 3 singles, both by 6-0, 6-1 scores.

Brown County’s Katie Tipton and Abie Bowman lost to Maddie Santer and Riley Walker 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Mary Rygiel and Julia Burt fell to Chelsie Landaer and Caitlyn Heim 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

LACROSSE

North tops Trojans

Liberty Jones scored six goals, including one in sudden death, to lead Columbus North to a 10-9 win against Center Grove.

Meghan Ives had two goals and two assists for North. Rylie Boezeman also scored two goals.

North was coming off a 5-2 win against Bloomington and a 7-3 loss to Evansville Reitz on Saturday. Jones scored three goals, and Boezeman and Avery Stults each added one against Bloomington. Boezeman had two goals, Jones added one and Jayden Cross notched an assist against Reitz.
