Bull Dogs take fourth

FLOYDS KNOBS — In a tournament where two shots separated the top four teams, 12th-ranked Columbus North ended up fourth in Saturday’s Floyd Central Invitational with a 320.

No. 10 Evansville North and No. 11 Cathedral both shot 318, with Evansville North winning on the fifth-score tiebereaker. No. 7 Bloomington South and Columbus North each shot 320, with Bloomington South taking third on the tiebreaker.

Luke Schneider finished second individually with a 74 to lead the Bull Dogs. Willy Davis carded an 80, Tyler Wilks added an 81, Jack Schiavello shot 85 and John Ferguson had a 98.

Columbus East finished with a 373 team total. Pierce Arnholt led the Olympians with an 89, while Carter Greene carded a 92, Spencer Erfmeier added a 95, Ben Luedeke shot 97 and J.T. Kuhlman had a 107.

BASEBALL

Hauser tops Trinity

SEYMOUR — Sam Louden came within one out of a no-hitter and finished with a one-hitter to lead Hauser to a 17-2, five-inning win at Trinity Lutheran.

Eli Miller went 3 for 3 with a double, and Sam Miller went 2 for 4 with four RBIs to lead a 13-hit attack for the Jets (3-2). Holden Pittman went 2 for 3, and Koby Johnson went 2 for 4.

Evan Hunt singled with two out in the fifth for the lone hit for the Cougars (1-4).

Jennings takes pair

NORTH VERNON — Austin Martin threw a five-inning perfect game and had two RBIs Saturday to lead Jennings County to an 11-0 win against Brownstown Central.

Jacob Vogel went 3 for 3 with three RBIs for the Panthers (6-1). Austin Byford went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Cole Sigler went 2 for 3.

Earlier in the day, Carson McNulty and Justin Ramey combined on a three-hitter in a 6-0 win against Washington. Logan McIntosh went 3 for 4, Matt Hines went 2 for 3 and Sigler went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Twisters edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County was scheduled to play in the Silver Creek Invitational, but after that was canceled, Oldenburg Academy visted the Panthers and claimed a 3-2 victory.

Reagan Brown beat Isabel Price 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Tatum Brown topped Evie Vanderpohl 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for Jennings (2-2).

The Panthers’ Lucy Brown fell to Alyssa Wanstrath 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Maria Ecker Alberti and Lily Schildknect lost to Mimi Wilder and Evelyn Storms 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Mia Silvey and Makenzey Carr fell to Emma Back and Mary Hunter 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Bull Dogs take third

Columbus North opened its season with a third-place finish in a tri meet at Seymour. The host Owls won with 75 points to 65 for New Albany and 64 for the Bull Dogs.

Gavin Bayne finished second in the 100 meters and teamed with Brett Warren, Noah Marsh and Ty Ferguson to take second in the boys 4×100 relay. Ferguson placed third in the 400, fourth in the shot put and fifth in the 100, and Marsh was fourth in the 100 and 400.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bull Dogs win twice

Columbus North won a pair of games, beating Cathedral 13-6 and Brownsburg 9-5.

Liberty Jones recorded five goals and two assists against Cathedral. Rylie Boezeman had two goals and one assist, Avery Stults scored two goals and Kasey Kelley, Meghan Ives and Kate Ellis all added one goal.

Jones notched four goals against Brownsburg. Boezeman scored two, and Kelley and Ives each added one.

Claire King posted seven saves against Cathedral and five saves against Brownsburg.

BOYS LACROSSE

North downs Whiteland

Owen Barkes scored four goals to lead Columbus North to a 10-2 win against Whiteland.

Christian Ortega and Naren Harianth each scored two goals, and Curran O’Connor had a goal and two assists. Evan Federle added one goal, and Brayson Bennett recorded six saves.
