North routs Flashes

INDIANAPOLIS — Maddi Rutan threw a 2-hitter with 10 strikeouts and went 4 for 4 with a double, two home runs and seven RBIs Thursday to lead Class 4A No. 3 Columbus North to a 19-0, five-inning win at Franklin Central.

Josie Lemmons went 4 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and five runs scored for the Bull Dogs (5-0). Kelsey Lovelace went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Rachel Cowan went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Kirsten Danford went 2 for 5.

Panthers prevail in 14

NORTH VERNON — Delaynee McCreary knocked in Kenzie Matern with a two-out single in the 14th inning to give Jennings County its first win of the season, a 6-5 triumph over Greensburg.

Matern, who pitched the first 12 innings for the Panthers (1-5), went 3 for 6. McCreary went 3 for 7 with two RBIs, Elizabeth Evans went 2 for 4, Alexis Carson went 2 for 6 and Ashley Meade had two RBIs.

Kassidy Beal pitched the final two innings to pick up the win.

Lancers get first win

GREENSBURG — MacKenzie Bieker threw a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and went 2 for 4 with a double a home run and four RBIs to lead Edinburgh to its first win of the season, a 10-0, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference triumph against South Decatur.

Gracie Crawhorn went 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Lancers (1-4, 1-1).

Loryn Pate threw an eight-hitter for the Cougars (1-3, 0-1).

Columbus Christian falls

Horizon Christian scored nine times in the first inning and went on to hand Columbus Christian a 27-5, five-inning defeat.

Mariah Holt had both hits for the Crusaders (0-3).

TRACK AND FIELD

East girls, JC boys win

NORTH VERNON — Colubmus East’s girls and Jennings County’s boys were victorious in a tri meet at Jennings.

The Panther boys edged the Olympians 70-68, while Brownstown Central finished third with 18. East’s girls scored 82 1/2 points to 40 1/2 for Brownstown and 33 for Jennings.

Emma Gray won the 100-meter hurdles (16.79 seconds), 100 (13.5) and 300 hurdles (50.3) and Chloe Krueger took the 1,600 (5:55.5), 800 (2:45.1) and 3,200 (12:56.3) to lead the Olympian girls. Gabbie Meier won the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches), Jenna Guse took the 400 (1:04.8), Mallory Rupp captured the 200 (28.75) and East won the 4×800 (11:12) and 4×400 (4:25.5) relays.

Kraedyn Young won the 1,600 (4:39.9) and 800 (2:07.2) to lead the Panther boys. Evan Sochacki won the pole vault (10-0), Cole Marksberry took the 110 hurdles (17.0), Lane Elsner captured the 400 (52.7), Aidan Ernstes won the 3,200 (10:23.7) and Jennings took the 4×800 (8:50) and 4×400 (3:44.4) relays.

East’s Anthony Lloyd won the high jump (5-10) and 100 (11.9). Other winners for the Olympians were Jacob Guse in the shot put (48-11), Henrique Carvalho in the 300 hurdles (42.9) and Rocco Duffy in the 200 (23.8). East also won the 4×100 relay (46.6).

Jets edge Lancers

HOPE — Hauser pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to claim its first win of the season, a 3-2 MHC triumph against Edinburgh

Addyson Barriger beat Jillian Turner 6-2,6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (1-2, 1-0). Hauser’s Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns topped Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Mattie Foster and Abby Blair outlasted Grace Myers and Zoey Sida 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Edinburgh’s Bethany Burton beat Bella Kilps 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Jessica Walsh defeated Lydia Jordan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

East falls to Seymour

SEYMOUR — Columbus East picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, but Seymour took the other four matches to claim a 4-1 victory.

Catherine Millwood and Katey Rieckers beat Ashley Clemente and Caroline Thompson 6-4, 3-6, (10-4) at No. 1 doubles for the Olympians (0-5).

East’s Katie Hong fell to Brooke Schafstall 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Ruth Federle lost to Madalyn Baurle 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Betsy Hoene fell to Elise hartung 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Ashlynn Waddle and Shruthika Kumar lost to Hiley Obermeyer and Carley Sanders 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles down Mustangs

NASHVILLE — Brown County remained unbeaten in the Western Indiana Conference with a 4-1 win against Edgewood.

Anna Stogsdill beat Keelyn Tiller 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Anna Tipton topped Carly Sherfield 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for the Eagles (3-1, 2-0). Katie Tipton and Mary Rygiel downed Kaiden Harrington and Katie Wilson 2-6, 7-5, (12-10) at No. 1 doubles, and Abie Bowman and Julia Burt defeated Katie Stephens and Jenna Brinson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Mattie Satter fell to Macy Vaughn 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Warriors nip Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, but Scottsburg took the other three to pull out a 3-2 victory.

Reagan Brown beat Grace Routt 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Tatum Brown topped Claire Routt 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (2-3).

Jennings’ Lucy Brown fell to Kendra Shuler 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Maria Ecker Alberti and Amy Vogel lost to Brinley Soloe and Olivia Fugate 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Mia Silvey and Caitlyn Shuck fell to Melea Luttrell and Kira Shelhamer 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

BASEBALL

Cougars topple Lancers

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh outhit South Decatur 6-5, but the Cougars scored seven times in the final two innings to claim a 7-1, five-inning MHC victory.

Evan Wullenweber had a double and three RBIs, and Avery Seegers had a home run and two RBIs for the Cougars (5-1, 3-0). Devin Pate threw a six-hitter.

Travis Jones threw a five-hitter for the Lancers (0-4, 0-2).

BOYS GOLF

Lancers take tri match

SHELBYVILLE — Edinburgh picked up a tri-match win at Timbergate. The Lancers finished with a 192 to 198 for Morristown and 204 for Southwestern (Shelby).

Max Blandford led Edinburgh with a 40. Trevor Moon carded a 47, Mason Calhoun added a 50, Cash Cunningham and Keegan Smith each shot 55, Wyatt Burton had a 56 and Devyn Milburn finished with a 58.

Eagles finish second

SPENCER — Brown County finished second in a tri match at Rolling Meadows. Edgewood won with a 193 to 208 for the Eagles and 216 for host Owen Valley.

Cooper VanNess earned co-medalist honors with a 44 to lead Brown County. Kody Walsh carded a 52, Clay Austin and Eli Sichting each shot 56, Wesley Arndt added a 60 and Bradley Arndt had a 61.
