North runs in showcase

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North’s Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff and Matt Newell finished second and third in the “Miracle Mile,” the signature event of Friday night’s Flashes Showcase at Franklin Central.

Kilbarger-Stumpff ran 4 minutes, 16.08 seconds, and Newell finished in 4:16.66. Carmel’s Kole Mathison won in 4:15.83.

In the girls Miracle Mile, North’s Lily Baker finished eighth in 5:08.26, Katherine Rumsey took 11th in 5:11.58 and Brianna Newell was 13th in 65:13.11. Huntington North’s Addy Wiley won in 4:42.67.

North’s Mateo Mendez finished 15th and Evan Carr 20th in the second-fastest heat of the boys race in 4:30.58 and 4:36.19. In the third-fastest heat, Clayton Guthrie took fourth (4:26.78) and Sam Hobbeheydar 15th (4:35.71). In the fourth-fastest heat, Kellen Hottell was third (4:30.41) and Will Kiel 21st (4:50.61).

North’s Julie Klaus finished 10th and Julia Kiesler 13th in the second-fastest heat of the girls race in 5:19.25 and 5:21.98. In the third-fastest heat, North’s Alyssa Green took 19th (5:36.12) and Sydney Morlok 20th (5:42.52). In the fourth-fastest heat, Brown County’s Hadley Gradolf was 17th (5:49.72) and North’s Jessica Meza 19th (6:06.18).

Brown County’s Rhett Silbaugh, Waylon Patrick, Rafe Silbaugh and Chase Austin finished third in the boys 4×800-meter relay in 8:43.10. North’s girls finished ninth (10:34.33) and boys 14th (9:12.33) in the 4×800 relay.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lancers top Olympians

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh finished off a 4-1 win against Columbus East in a match that had been suspended because of rain last week.

Bethany Burton beat Katie Hong 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Jessica Walsh topped Cathrine Millwood 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (2-1). Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant outlasted Ruth Federle and Katey Rieckers 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Zoey Sida and Gracie Myers defeated Allie Gribbins and Avery Brooks 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The win for the Olympians (0-5) came at No. 3 singles, where Shruthika Kumar beat Jillian Turner 6-2, 6-1.

BASEBALL

Jets blank Chargers

Koby Johnson

HOPE — Koby Johnson and Holden Pittman combined on a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead Hauser to a 7-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against North Decatur.

Levi Gollmer went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Zayne McCanlis went 2 for 3 with a double to lead the Jets (3-4, 3-0) at the plate. Johnson struck out 14 in his six innings on the mound.

Panthers blank Pirates

GREENSBURG — Carson McNulty and Austin Byford combined on a three-hitter to lead Jennings County to a 13-0, five-inning win at Greensburg.

Sam Burkman went 2 for 2, and Logan McIntosh went 2 for 3 with a double for the Panthers (7-2). Keegan Manowitz had a double and three RBIs, and Jacob Vogel and Lane Zohrlaut each added two RBIs.

Cougars top Lancers

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh led 4-3 after 2 1/2 innings, but South Decatur scored nine times in the third and sixth in the fourth to claim an 18-6 MHC victory.

Devin Pate had two doubles and three RBIs; and Avery Seegers had a single, a double and three RBIs for the Cougars (7-1, 4-0). Evan Wullenweber had a single and a double, and Hunter Johnson added two hits.

Travis Jones, Gage Bennett and Colin Richardson all had two hits for the Lancers (0-5, 0-3).

SOFTBALL

Lancers outslug Cougars

GREENSBURG — Gracie Crawhorn, Kyah Streeval and Carly Cowan all hit two home runs, and Edinburgh outslugged South Decatur in a 20-12 MHC decision.

Streeval added a double and went 4 for 5 with six RBIs for the Lancers (2-4, 2-2). Crawhorn went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Angel Carman went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, winning pitcher MacKenzie Bieker went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Cowan went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, Alix Streeval went 2 for 5 with a triple and Katie Hardman went 2 for 6.

Loryn Pate had five RBIs for the Cougars (1-4, 0-2). Arey Brown added two RBIs.
