William Nathaniel “Bill” Fouts

INDIANAPOLIS

Bill passed away peacefully at home in Indianapolis, IN on April 16th, 2022. He was born January 2nd, 1962, in Denver, Colorado to parents Fred N. Jr., and Marylu (Thompson) Fouts who relocated to Columbus, IN in 1965.

Bill graduated from Columbus East High School in 1980 and went on to attend Indiana University from 1981 to 1984 before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Aschaffenburg, Germany from 1985 to 1989. He returned to IU and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1992 but continued post-graduate studies in Journalism.

Bill was a gifted writer and photographer which lead to a position as a contributing photojournalist for the Noblesville Daily Times before becoming the managing editor of the Times-Tribune in Alexandria, Indiana and most recently as the Quality Assurance Manager for Blue Octopus Printing Co. in Indianapolis, IN. He has long been known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor and his love of all things IU.

Bill was proceeded in death by his father Fred N. Fouts Jr.; and by his grandparents, Fred N. Sr., and Margaret Evadean (Schein) Fouts of Columbus, IN and William H. and Lucile (Holmes) Thompson of McAllen, TX. He is survived by his mother Marylu Fouts and younger brother Daniel F. Fouts of Columbus, IN; Aunt Margaret Anne Chandler; cousins, Steven and Chris Chandler of Boerne, TX; cousins Nancy and Mike Riley of Columbus, IN; and cousins Jackie (Passwater) Gaines and Katelyn (Alpha) Hogan of Indianapolis, IN.

A funeral service for Bill will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel, 1022 Pearl Street Columbus, Indiana, with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Friends may gather for visitation from 10 am to noon prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard.
