North senior takes 2nd

CARMEL — Columbus North’s Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff finished second in the main event of Friday night’s Carmel 3200 Distance Showcase.

Kilbarger-Stumpff ran 8 minutes, 55.22 seconds. Ryan Watts of Edwardsville, Illinois, won the race in 8:54.09. Carmel’s Kole Mathison was third in 9:01.31.

North’s Will Russell and Evan Carr finished 27th and 28th in 9:34.86 and 9:36.08. Neal White finished third in the Freshman 3,200 in 10:07.68.

Cougars sweep Relays

EDINBURGH — South Decatur’s boys and girls ran to titles at the Edinburgh Relays.

The Cougar boys racked up 120 points to 84 for runner-up Hauser, while Edinburgh finished fourth with 67. South Decatur’s girls scored 112 points to 103 for Southwestern (Shelby), while Hauser took fifth with 42.

South Decatur’s McKinley Shook won the boys 110-meter hurdles (17.00 seconds). The Cougars won the high jump (10 feet, 8 inches), discus (216-3), 4×100 relay (46.35) and shot put relay (52.71).

Hauser’s Aleck Lopez and Cameron Toole won the long jump (39-8); Cephus Zulu, Alex Bower, Toole and Lopez combined to take both the 4×400 relay (3:42.77) and shuttle hurdle relay (56.30). Edinburgh captured the 4×200 relay (1:40.00)

The South Decatur girls won the shot put (53-7), distance medley relay (8:33.12), 4×400 relay (4:57.71), sprint medley relay (2:16.77) and shuttle hurdle relay (1:05.00).

BASEBALL

Bull Dogs down Floyd

FLOYDS KNOBS — Zach Wager threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Columbus North to a 3-1 win at Floyd Central.

Will Baker had two doubles for the Bull Dogs (7-2-1), who scored twice in the second and once in the third. The Highlanders scored their run in the fourth.

Jets slip past Mohawks

WALDRON — Hauser snapped a 3-3 tie with four runs in the fourth inning and held on for an 8-6 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Waldron.

Eli Miller threw a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts and went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to lead the Jets (6-6, 5-0). Sam Miller went 2 for 4, and Levi Gollmer had two RBIs.

Panthers topple Owls

SEYMOUR — Keegan Manowitz threw a six-hitter and went 2 for 4 to lead Jennings County to a 10-3 win at Seymour.

Austin Byford went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Panthers (9-4). Cole Sigler added two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

East falls to Bears

Columbus East jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Class 4A No. 8 Shelbyville scored four times in the second and five more in the third and went on to post an 11-2 victory.

Kaylee Cole went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (2-9).

Panthers stop Trojans

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fifth and went on to post a 7-2 win against East Central.

Alexis Carson went 4 for 4 with two RBIs for the Panthers (3-6). Grace George went 3 for 4, Delaynee McCreary went 2 for 4 with a double and Ashley Meade went 2 for 4.

Patriots top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Owen Valley scored eight times in the first two innings and went on to hand Brown County an 11-4 WIC defeat.

Ava Sanders went 3 for 4 with a double for the Eagles (1-7, 1-3). Ally Hash went 2 for 3 Savannah Oden went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run, Abigail Watson went 2 for 4.

BOYS GOLF

Austin outscores Jets

Hauser fell to Austin 168-207 at Otter Creek.

Chase Martoccia led the Jets with a 49. Bryce Kuntz and Caleb Wallace each shot 52, Zach Weichman carded a 54, Jesse Bragg added a 58, Ben Johnson had a 62 and Marshall Moody finished with a 67.

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers upend Cubs

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Madison.

Reagan Brown beat Anna Blueman 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown topped Trinity Stoner 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Mia Silvey downed Claire Slygh 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (3-4). Maria Ecker Alberti and Lucy Brown defeated Erin Burkhardt and Taylor Harsin 7-6 (5), 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Jennings’ Caitlyn Shuck and Amy Vogel fell to Maddie Mundt and Addi Mundt 6-3, 7-6 (9) at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County wins

GREENCASTLE — Brown County dropped only seven games in the five matches in rolling to a 5-0 WIC win at South Putnam.

Anna Stogsdill beat Brinlee Clark 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton topped Ava Watson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Mattie Satter blanked Catherine Hodge 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (6-1, 3-0).

Brown County’s Katie Tipton and Abie Bowman downed Allie Newby and Sydnee Boswell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Mary Rygiel and Julia Burt blanked Kaley Hodge and Kylie Arnold 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers edge Mohawks

WALDRON — Edinburgh swept the singles matches in a 3-2 MHC win at Waldron.

Bethany Burton beat Nichole Garner 6-1, 6-4 at No. singles, and Jessica Walsh topped Josee Carrison 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (3-3). Jillian Turner was leading Riley Price 4-0 at No. 3 singles when Price retired.

Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant fell to Mackenzie Shaw and Megan Bogeman 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida lost to Emily Tyree and Audrey Hogg 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
