Gunnar Setser of Columbus set the fast time in his qualifying group and raced from fourth to third in his heat race to earn the pole for the feature on April 16 at the U.S. 24 Speedway in Logansport. Then in the main event, he led from start to finish to pick up his first win of the year in the A-class winged micros.
Setser was followed across the finish line by Charlie Allen, Cale Coons, Blane Culp and Brittain O’Neal. He is the son of Jason and Mindy Setser.
Brownstown results
Britan Godsey of Bedford won his first Brownstown Speedway feature race on April 16 when the third-generation racer won the Indiana Pro Late Model feature race. Godsey drives a car owned by Steve Vawter of Columbus. North Vernon racers Alan Magner and Tory Collins finished second and third, with Bill Wagner of Brookville and Greg Kendall of Paoli rounding out the top five drivers.

Michael Brewer of Seymour and Jacob Owens of North Vernon battled down to the wire, and Brewer edged out Owens at the finish line for his first win in the hornet division. Owens was second, followed by Hunter Perry of Columbus, Shannon Walp of Hayden and Scott Smith of Brownstown.

Jennings Go-Karts get going
Jennings County Kart Racing, which holds events at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon, held its first points night of the season on April 15. Division winners were Owen Barr (flatheads and 340 clone), Connor Perry (youth champ and rookies), Zach Roell (junior 1), Macy Stanton (junior champ), Ricky Bernard (junior 3 ), Jake Roell (junior 2), Derek Franks (rwyb), Jentry Cash (junior outlaw), Robert Doyle (senior champ), Leroy Blevins (small block open), Bubba Trinkle (420 clone), Richard Frazee (pred), and Ryan Turner (380 clone).
The next scheduled event at the track will be on April 30.
Rice wins in Florence
Josh Rice of Verona, Kentucky, continued his mastery of Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky, when he won the 46th Annual Spring 50 for late models on April 16. Rice took the lead from Bobby Pierce on Lap 19 and then held off Pierce for the $10,000 victory, his first in the annual event.
Pierce finished second, followed by Tyler Erb, Ricky Thornton Jr. and Cory Hedgecock. Completing the top 10 were Austyn Mills, Ashton Winger, Devin Gilpin, Brandon Sheppard and Scott James.
Florence will host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on May 7, with the Ralph Latham Memorial Race paying $15,000 to win. Rice is the defending race winner. For more information, visit florencespeedway.com.
Creech wins at Paragon
Tim Creech II of Lawrence won the 410 non-wing sprint car feature on April 16 at Paragon Speedway. Other feature winners were Derek Groomer of Bloomington (modifieds), Bryce Shidler of
Crawfordsville (super stocks), Dylan Wheeler of Columbus (hornets) and Michael Nail of Bloomfield (bombers).
Tonight, Paragon will host steel-block sprints, super stocks, modifieds, bombers and hornets.
Lawrenceburg opener results
The third time was the charm for Lawrenceburg Speedway when the season opener was held on April 16 after two straight weather-related cancellations.
Tyler Kendall was victorious in the 410 non-wing sprint car division, taking the win over J.J. Hughes, Joss Moffatt, Sterling Cling and Cole Bodine.
Kyle Schornick won the open wheel modified main event over Matt Hamilton, Jeffrey Jessup, Josh Walker and David Spille.
Cordell Moore won the hornet class feature over Jesse Ramirez, Gary Snyder, Ryan Paciocco and Bobbo Smith.
Will Hayes took the pure stock feature race over Danny Eichler, Joel Andrews, Dylan Chase and Lonnie Baker.

Seymour. Johnny Robbins won the V-6 stock car feature over George Morgan, Phil Fultz and Bill Smith.
Also from 50 years ago, Pat Patrick won the season opener at Whitewater Valley Speedway in
Liberty over Gerald Dixon, Billy Teegarden and Gene Petro. Bob Smith won the super six division feature.
From 40 years ago in 1982 at Brownstown Speedway, it was Kenny Simpson winning the All-Star Circuit of Champions Late Model feature over Donnie Moran, Jim Dunn, Don Hobbs, and Bob Fleetwood.
