North rallies past Floyd

FLOYDS KNOBS — Class 4A No. 8 Columbus North went extra innings for the second night in a row to pull out another win, this time a 3-1, eight-inning victory at Floyd Central.

Trailing 1-0 going to the top of the seventh, Rachel Cowan smacked a triple and scored on a single by Bailey King. Then in the eighth, Josie Lemmons singled, went to second on a sacrifice by Kelsey Lovelace and scored on a triple by Maddi Rutan.

Cowan went 2 for 3, and Lemmons went 2 for 4 for the Bull Dogs (13-2). Cowan and Rutan combined on a three-hitter.

Lancers shut out Eels

EDINBURGH — MacKenzie Bieker threw a two-hitter to lead Edinburgh to a 7-0 win against Eminence.

Kyah Streeval went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Lancers (6-7). Gracie Crawhorn went 3 for 4 with a double, and Alix Streeval went 2 for 4.

Panthers blank Cougars

GREENSBURG — Knightstown scored twice in the first inning and went on to hand South Decatur an 11-0, six-inning defeat.

The Cougars (1-9) were limited to four hits.

Eagles fall to Arrows

NASHVILLE — Brown County committed no errors, but had only one hit in a 6-0 Western Indiana Conference loss to Sullivan.

Lexie Austin had the hit for the Eagles (1-8, 1-4).

BASEBALL

Spartans edge Jets

SHELBYVILLE — Southwestern (Shelby) rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Hauser.

Koby Johnson threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 for the Jets (6-7, 5-1). Johnson also had a home run and three RBIs at the plate.

Jennings County falls

NORTH VERNON — Bloomington South scored twice in the third and held on for a 2-1 win at Jennings County.

Logan McIntosh went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (10-6). Keegan Manowitz and Cole Sigler combined on a six-hitter.

Arows top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County was limited to two hits in a 15-0, five-inning WIC loss to Sullivan.

Jack Sichting had both hits for the Eagles (1-6, 0-4).

Panthers down Shawe

NORTH VERNON — Jake Grider carded a 41 to lead Jennings County to a 180-205 win against Shawe Memorial at St. Anne’s

Jack George added a 45 for the Panthers. Davey Shaw and Eli Simmons each shot 47, Tanner Stearns had a 53, Rowan Cook shot 56 and Jackson Earl finished with a 59.

TRACK AND FIELD

North sweeps tri meet

Despite resting its top distance runners, Columbus North swept a home tri meet on Tuesday. The Bull Dog boys scored 100 points to 51 for East Central and 16 for Shelbyville, while the North girls edged East Central 81-80 and Shelbyville finished with six.

Winners for the North boys were Bryant Trinkle in the long jump (18 feet, 7 1/2 inches), Tucker Smith in the shot put (69-2), Liam Milne in the 110-meter hurdles (16.47 seconds), Alex Narvaez in the 100 (11.56), Adam Reckers in the 1,600 (4:50.84), Josh Wright in the 300 hurdles (43.00), Wil Littrell in the 800 (2:10.67) and Sam Hobbeheyder in the 3,200 (9:53.83). The Bull Dogs also took the 4×800 relay (9:04.40).

Natalie Ho led the North girls with wins in the 100 (13.16) and 200 (27.62). Other winners were Alivia Steinkoenig in the shot (37-3 1/2), Emma Martin in the discus (105-3), Kyleigh Wolf in the 1,600 (5;25.36) and Abby Jacobi in the 3,200 (11:59.99). The Bull Dogs also captured the 4×800 relay (10:10.01).

Panthers win invite

SEYMOUR — Jennings County and Columbus East went 1-2 in Tuesday’s Seymour Invitational, which was for boys only. The Panthers scored 121 points to 117 for the Olympians and 114 for Seymour.

Kraedyn Young led Jennings with wins in the 1,600 (4:35.38) and 800 (2:09.05). The Panthers also won the 4×800 relay (8:36.04).

East’s Anthony Lloyd won the high jump (6-1) and 100 (11.58), and Jacob Guse took the shot (47-11 3/4) and discus (147-8). Gavin Edgecomb captured the pole vault (9-6), Charlie Russell won the 110 hurdles (15.96) and Rocco Duffy took the 200 (23.42).
