North’s Justis wins Crawley Scholarship

Columbus North senior Andrea Justis has been awarded a Marion Crawley Scholarship by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Justis is one of 10 girls players, to go along with nine boys players and one manager statewide to win a Crawley Scholarship, which carries a $750 stipend. Justis, who carries a 3.9 GPA, plans to attend University of Southern Indiana and major in radiology with the hope of becoming a radiological technologist

“I’m just really grateful, especially for coach (Brett) White taking control of that and signing me up for that,” Justis said. “Every bit helps, so I’m really grateful for that.”

Criteria for the Crawley Scholarship includes achievement in basketball and academics, participation in extracurricular activities and service to one’s school and community. Crawley was a four-time boys basketball state championship coach at Washington and Lafayette Jeff who recorded 644 career wins. He later became the first executive director of the IBCA.

Justis averaged 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds and led the Bull Dogs with 1.9 blocks per game this season in helping them to a 14-9 record and a Conference Indiana title.

Hatcher to sign with Spalding

Columbus East senior Korbin Hatcher will participate in a signing ceremony at 3:30 p.m. today in the school’s commons.

Hatcher plans to sign to play soccer at Spalding University in Louisville. The center back helped lead the Olympians to sectional titles the past three years and a regional crown in 2019.

Softball games rescheduled

Two area softball games that were rained out on Monday have been rescheduled for next week.

The Hauser at Rushville game will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The Indian Creek at Edinburgh game will be at 5:30 p.m. May 5.

Also, the Columbus Christian at South Decatur softball game that was rained out earlier in the year, has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. May 6.

East boys soccer to hold callout meeting

Columbus East will hold a callout meeting for boys soccer at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room C110 of the school.

Teams to host Middle School Football Camp

Columbus North coach Tim Bless and Columbus East coach Eddie Vogel and their staffs will host the 2022 Columbus Middle School Football Camp from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 16 and 18 at North and May 17 and 19 at East for those entering Grades 7 and 8 at Central or Northside Middle School.

Campers will participate in football drills stressing the safest and most fundamentally-sound techniques. This will not be a full-contact camp.

Walkup registration will be available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the first night of the camp at North. Cost is $50, with cash or checks payable to “Columbus Football Camp.”
