Letter: Democrats fighting inflation, GOP only criticizes

Our nation is in the midst of an economic boom not seen in generations, and yet, we’re not feeling it in our daily lives. We’re not seeing it in our back accounts. We’re all working a little extra to make ends meet.

Inflation is real, and Indiana Democrats aren’t running away from it. We see the impact higher prices have on our families and on the communities we call home – and we’re ready to fix this problem by delivering a common sense solution.

Through President Joe Biden’s leadership, Democrats passed the Jobs Act. These transformational infrastructure projects will also create union jobs and combat inflation in the long term. Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman said his “yes” vote on this law was partly due to its efforts against inflation.

Same goes for the Build Back Better Act. More than 56 economists have said these investments in universal Pre-K, childcare, and Indiana’s HIP 2.0 program would help families address higher costs — inflation — across the nation.

Further, President Biden is getting to work right now to address the higher costs we’re seeing in our goods. Biden is advocating for the passage of the COMPETES Act, which would address current supply chain issues and create a more competitive market for American-made products. And again, this would help Indiana fight inflation.

President Biden and Democrats are working on delivering lower costs for Hoosier families, because we know inflation has made the last year a little harder to make ends meet and plan for the future. We’re ready to fix this problem immediately.

But here’s an honest question: Why aren’t Indiana Republicans stepping up too? They are quick to criticize almost everything in the media, but haven’t come up with any real solutions.

It’s time the Indiana GOP to step up and produce an alternative or admit their rhetoric is nothing but hot air.
