COLUMBUS, Ind. — Voting in today’s primary got off to a slow start this morning in Columbus but has picked up since then, local election officials said. As of 11:15 a.m., 1,765 people had voted in person today, raising total turnout to 5,006, according to the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office.

“We’ve seen an increase of voting at all of our locations,” said Bartholomew County Clerk Shari Lentz.

Local election officials are optimistic that the weather will remain mostly dry this afternoon, which they hope will encourage more voters to turn out.

“The weather is supposed to be relatively dry this afternoon. Now they’ve taken a lot of rain out of the forecast,” Lentz said. “So, I’m hopeful that people will go ahead and turn out.”
