Columbus East student wins Kiwanis scholarship

Columbus East High School student Zoe Barnsfather of Hope has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to attend an Indiana University of her choice, the Meridian Kiwanis club and the Kiwanis Indiana Foundation announced.

Barnsfather was one of 120 applicants in the state of Indiana vying for twenty-four $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to deserving high school seniors by the foundation. One student is selected from each of the 24 Divisions of the Indiana District of Kiwanis after being nominated by their local Kiwanis Club. She was selected from the Heartland Division, which includes all high schools in the Franklin, Columbus, Shelbyville, Seymour, and North Vernon areas.

A senior at Columbus East High School, Barnsfather has been active in Key Club, the Columbus East Academic Team, National Honor Society, Best Buddies, and Concert and Marching Band. Outside of school she is active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Youth Leadership of Bartholomew County, Turning Point Domestic Violence Services as well as working at Crew Car Wash.

The Kiwanis Indiana Foundation is funded by donations from Kiwanis Club members and other sources. The foundation also funds service projects through grants to local Kiwanis Clubs. Meridian Kiwanis meets every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at Century 21 Breeden Realtors, 700 Washington St., Columbus. Visitors are welcome.
