North downs Shamrocks

WESTFIELD — Columbus North broke open a close game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night and posted a 5-1 win at Westfield.

Zach McLean and winning pitcher Dyllan Redmon combined on a five-hitter fo the Bull Dogs (14-3-2). McLean had two doubles, and Connor Hensley had a single and a triple.

Jets fall to Batesville

BATESVILLE — Hauser scored twice in the top of the first, but Batesville plated 12 unanswered runs to claim a 12-2, five-inning victory.

Levi Gollmer went 2 for 3 for the Jets (10-10).

Cougars win in 8

STRAUGHN — South Decatur plated three runs in the top of the eighth to pull out a 16-13, eight-inning victory at Tri.

Colby Rathburn went 3 for 4 for the Cougars (16-2). Cameron Henderson picked up the win in relief.

Lancers rout Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Edinburgh jumped out to a 14-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings and cruised from there to a 20-3, five-inning win at Crothersville.

Gabe Bennett and Riley Palmeter combined on a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Lancers (5-11). Landen Burton went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Palmeter went 3 for 5 with a double, Noah Detling went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, Bennett went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Jarrett Turner went 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs and Colin Richardson went 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

BOYS GOLF

Jets win tri match

Hauser won a tri match at Otter Creek. The Jets scored a 193 to 202 for Brown County and 225 for Waldron.

Chase Martoccia led the Jets with a 44. Caleb Wallace carded a 46, Bryce Kunze added a 49, Ben Johnson shot 54 and Brenden Burton had a 60.

The Eagles’ Cooper VanNess won medalist honors with a 43. Kody Walsh carded a 48, Clay Austin added a 53, Wesley Arndt shot 58 and Bradley Arndt had a 62.

GIRLS TENNIS

Carmel edges Bull Dogs

INDIANAPOLIS — No. 3 Columbus North came close before coming away with a 3-2 loss to No. 1 Carmel in a match played at Perry Meridian.

Kathryn Wilson beat Nora Parkins 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (9-3). Aya Saad topped Elyse Nelson 7-5, 1-1, retired at No. 3 singles.

North’s Ashlie Wilson fell to Lauren Littell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Tiffany Fu and Leah George lost to Hallie Reeves and Alexa Lewis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Annabelle Sun and Sydney Cooper fell to Thea Bertocini and Alli Griffin 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Braves shut out Jets

TRAFALGAR — Indian Creek won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Hauser.

Bella Kilps fell to Lauren Foster 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles Addyson Barriger lost to Zoe Rayback 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Lydia Jordan fell to Kaitlynn Zupancic 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (5-7).

Hauser’s Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns lost to Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Mattie Foster and Piper Rowell lost to Avery Burress and Addy Tunell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Artesians nip Eagles

NASHVILLE — Martinsville pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 singles to claim a 3-2 victory at Brown County.

Abie Bowman beat Alyssa McCauley 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (9-7). Mary Rygiel and Katie Tipton topped Ainsley Louden and Kate Collins 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles

Brown County’s Mattie Foster fell to Kate Fulkerson 7-5, 2-6, (14-12) at No. 1 singles, and Kylie Workman lost to Lauren Leonard 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Olivia Mathis and Annika Evenson fell to Belah Wolff and Hannah Niese 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh won four matches in straight sets in a 5-0 MHC win at Morristown

Bethany Burton beat Sarah Essex at No. 1 singles, and Jessica Walsh topped Abby Mendoza at No. 2 singles, both by 6-1, 6-0 scores. Peyton Bryant downed Bri Flores 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (8-5).

Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Jillian Turner defeated Brianna Batton and McKinley Kile 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 1 doubles. Zoey Sida and Gracie Myers blanked Liz Cheek and Katie Hillock 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles top Tiger Cubs

NASHVILLE — Brown County scored seven times in the second inning and went on to post a 10-1 WIC win against Greencastle.

Ava Sanders nine strikeouts and went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Eagles (2-11, 2-6). Erin Fisch-Murhpy went 2 for 3 with a double.

Lancers top Marlins

INDIANAPOLIS — Edinburgh built a 6-0 lead and held on for a 6-4 win at Living Water Homeschool.

MacKenzie Bieker threw a five-hitter with 15 strikeouts, and Gracie Crawhorn went 2 for 3 with two home runs three RBIs for the Lancers (8-6). Kyah Streeval also homered.

Cougars slip past Eagles

GREENSBURG —South Decatur pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 4-3 win against Jac-Cen-Del.

Lakota Henry threw a four-hitter for the Cougars (5-11). Kassidy Haley went 2 for 3 with two doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

East girls third in HHC

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East finished third in Tuesday’s HHC girls meet. New Albany won with 152 1/3 points to 148 1/3 for Floyd Central and 59 for the Olympians.

Megan Tracy finished second in the shot put (33 feet, 8 1/2 inches) and third in the discus (107.4) to lead the Olympians. Emma Gray took fourth in the 100 meters (13.18 seconds) and 300 hurdles (50.77), Chloe Krueger was fourth in the 1,600 (5:45.51) and East finished third in the 4×100 relay (53.34) and fourth in the 4×800 (11:21.62) and 4×400 (4:25.12) relays.

Sasha Hicks led the Panthers with a second-place finish in the high jump (4-10). Cheyeanna Leslie took third in the shot (33-3).

Cougars sweep MHC

SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur’s boys and girls swept the Mid-Hoosier Conference meet, and Hauser’s boys finished second.

The Cougar boys scored 124 points to 113 1/2 for the Jets. Edinburgh’s boys finished seventh with 50 1/2 points.

The South Decatur girls edged Morristown 138-135 for the title. Hauser was sixth with 31.

McKinley Shook won the 110 hurdles (16.30), and Trevor Newby took the 3,200 (11:35.97) to lead the South Decatur boys. The Cougars also won the 4×100 relay (46.36).

Aleck Lopez

Hauser’s Aleck Lopez won the long jump with a school-record leap of 21-9 and also won the 100 (11.12) and 400 (52.41). Colin Kistler took the 1,600 (5:05.06), and Cephus Zulu captured the 300 hurdles (43.84). The Jets also won the 4×400 relay (3:39.82).

The South Decatur girls got wins from Paige Hibberd in the high jump (4-10), Alli Nobbe in the discus (85-8) and Maria Nobbe in the 300 hurdles (50.52). The Cougars also took the 4×100 relay (54.82).

Hauser’s Callie Swegman won the 3,200 (14:18.61).
