CPD deputy chief injured in accident

Columbus Police Department Deputy Chief Steve Norman

The Columbus Police Department Deputy Chief of Police, Steve Norman, has been hospitalized in Indianapolis following an accident in Marion County on Tuesday afternoon.

The Indiana State Police are investigating the accident and no details have been released at this time. Columbus police said Norman was taken to an Indianapolis area hospital for treatment, but his condition is unknown at this time.

Columbus Police Department spokesman Matt Harris said Norman was off-duty and was not in a CPD vehicle or acting in a law enforcement capacity when the accident occurred.

Norman is CPD’s second in command and a member of the department’s command staff.
