Columbus police officers arrested a teenager on numerous charges after he tried to evade officers who attempted to stop him for a speeding violation Friday night.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., CPD officers observed a Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed on Goeller Boulevard. When officers attempted to stop the driver of the speeding vehicle, he refused to pull over, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The driver of the Mustang, Jesse T. Williams, 18, of 3871 Oriole Drive, ran several stop signs, crossed left of center and turned his vehicle’s headlights off in an effort to evade law enforcement during the pursuit which reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, Harris said.
Williams eventually pulled over his vehicle in the parking lot at Southside Elementary School where he was taken into custody. During a search of Williams’ vehicle, officers located two loaded handguns, marijuana, plastic baggies containing drug residue, a scale, and a large amount of currency, Harris said.
Although Williams had a handgun permit, the weapons were seized along with the drugs and currency.
Williams was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle
Dealing marijuana
Possession of marijuana
Reckless driving
The investigation in the case is ongoing and additional charges are possible, Harris said. Williams was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting bond, which was set at $18, 500.
