North moves to regional final

BLOOMINGTON — Third-ranked Columbus North advanced to today’s Bloomington South Regional final with a 5-0 semifinal win against Greensburg on Tuesday.

Ashlie Wilson blanked Jenna Foster 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Kathryn Wilson blanked Abigail Hoeing 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Aya Saad beat Josie Nobbe 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (15-3).

North’s Tiffany Fu and Leah George topped Ella Chapman and Janae Comer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Annabelle Sun and Sydney Cooper defeated Morgan Cain and Hailey Overstock 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

The Bull Dogs will play Bloomington North in the regional final at 5:30 p.m. today.

SOFTBALL

Bull Dogs blank Trojans

BLOOMINGTON — Class 4A No. 6 Columbus North opened Bloomington North Sectional play with a 10-0, six-inning win against East Central.

Maddi Rutan threw a two-hitter and struck out 13 for the Bull Dogs (19-3), who scored nine times in the first three innings.

Josie Lemmons went 2 for 3 for North, which managed nine hits. Kelsey Lovelace went 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Jets advance to sectional final

RISING SUN — Class A No. 2 Hauser moved on to the Rising Sun Sectional final with a 12-0, five-inning win against South Decatur.

Paige McDaniel and Kaydence Gates combined on a one-hitter for the Jets (21-4-1), who scored eight times in the first, two in the second and two in the third. McDaniel also went 3 for 3 with a triple.

Lucie Asher went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, and Izzy Brunner went 3 for 4 with a triple for Hauser. Maley Jordan went 2 for 3, and Hannah Taylor went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Loryn Pate had the lone hit for the Cougars (5-15).

Trinity tops Henryville

HENRYVILLE — Trinity Lutheran built a 7-0 lead and held on for a 7-3 win against Henryville in the opening round of the Henryville Sectional.

Kamzi Gross threw a five-hitter and had three hits and two RBIs for the Cougars (12-8). Bailey Tabeling also had two RBIs.

North downs Pirates

GREENSBURG — Luke Schneider won medalist honors to lead No. 15 Columbus North to a 320-353 win at Greensburg.

Jack Schiavello carded an 80 for the Bull Dogs. Willy Davis added an 83, Brady Schneider shot 85 and Aditya Banerjee had a 91.

BASEBALL

Jets fall to Royals

HOPE — Hauser closed the regular season with a 3-1 loss to Eastern Hancock.

Levi Gollmer went 2 for 3, and Simeon Wasil went 2 for 3 with a double for the Jets (15-12).

Eagles finish second

GREENWOOD — Brown County finished seconc in a tri-match at Bluff Creek. Host Indian Creek won with a 152, to 180 for the Eagles and 212 for Mooresville Christian 212.

Cooper VanNess led Brown County with a 39. Kody Walsh and Wesley Arndt each shot 46, Eli Sichting carded a 49, Clay Austin and Bradley Arndt each shot 53, Jordan Barnett added a 55 and William Cassiday had a 56.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Eagle lands state berth

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County junior Hadley Gradolf earned a trip to the state finals with a second-place finish in 11 minutes, 29.25 seconds in the 3,200 meters in the Bloomington North Regional.

The Eagles finished 18th as a team with nine points. Their other point came from Christy Sebastian, who was eighth in the 300 hurdles in 50.27.

Trinity Lutheran’s Emalee Goss finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.
