MALE

Tucker Smith // Columbus North senior track athlete

Smith defended his state championship in the shot put with a throw of 66 feet, 6 3/4 inches and finished second in the discus at 170-4 Saturday to lead the Bull Dogs to a third-place overall team finish.

His performance last week: “I was happy with how the discus went. The shot fell short, but it was fun.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “About a week out, I do a heavy leg lift, then I throw one day, then every other day, go in and seven sets of two snatches at 225 (pounds).”

Favorite drink: “The Chef sauce”

Favorite food: “Chef Boy-Ar-Dee ravioli.”

Favorite class: “English.”

Favorite sports team: “Saskatchewan Curlers”

Favorite athlete: “Sidney Crosby”

Role model: “(Hockey player) Shoresy from Letter Kenney, Ontario”

Best advice: “If there’s a room full of girls, run because it’s scary.”

Athletics goal: “Win an NCAA title.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Russia, to box a bear.”

FEMALE

Izzy Brunner // Hauser freshman softball player

Izzy Brunner

Brunner went 2 for 4 in a 17-2 regional win over Indianapolis Lutheran, went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI in a 4-1 semistate semifinal win over Trinity Lutheran and went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in a 10-3 semistate final loss to Tecumseh.

Her performance last week: “I know there’s things I can definitely improve on and work on, but I’m proud of the way I worked with my team.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “As a team, we pray, and either the day or or before game day, I get in my head dialed in and ready to go.”

Favorite drink: “Vanilla Coke.”

Favorite food: “Chicken Alfredo.”

Favorite class: “Math”

Favorite sports team: “Alabama softball”

Favorite athlete: “Kaylee Tow”

Role model: “My parents (Andy and Katie Brunner)”

Best advice: “To look back long enough to figure out what you did wrong and need to work on, and then get moving forward.”

Athletics goal: “To make it to state next year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Alaska or Canada, so I can see the Northern Lights and the wildlife and scenery.”
