North’s Rutan named 1st-team All-State

Columbus North junior Maddi Rutan has been selected Class 3A-4A first-team All-State by the Indiana Softball Coaches Association.

Rutan led the Bull Dogs with a .538 batting average, seven doubles, 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 31 runs scored this season. She also went 12-3 with an 0.59 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 95 innings pitched.

Columbus East junior Kenzie Foster made the 3A-4A second team. The shortstop led the Olympians with a .513 average eight triples, two home runs and 39 runs scored.

Hauser junior Hannah Taylor made the A-2A third team. The shortstop batted .473 and led the Jets with 13 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 35 RBIs and 39 runs scored.

Bull Dogs named All-Conference

Four members of the Conference Indiana co-champion Columbus North baseball team have been named to the All-Conference squad.

Will Baker, Zach McLean, Dyllan Redmon and Zach Wager are on the first team. Luke Harmon and Connor Hensley made honorable mention

Also, four Bull Dogs have been named to the All-Conference Indiana softball team. Maddi Rutan, Kirsten Danford, Josie Lemmons and Kelsey Lovelace made the first team, and Bailey King and Kaylee Cowan honorable mention selections.

Locals named to All-MHC squads

Four members of the Mid-Hoosier Champion Hauser baseball and softball teams have been named to the All-MHC teams, and Nathan Long and Andy Brunner are the MHC Baseball and Softball Coaches of the Year.

The Jets’ Levi Gollmer, Koby Johnson, Eli Miller and Sam Miller made the All-Conference baseball team. They are joined by South Decatur’s Devin Pate, Avery Seegers and Evan Wullenweber and Edinburgh’s Riley Palmeter.

Hauser’s Lucie Asher, Paige McDaniel, Kyra Meister and Hannah Taylor are on the All-MHC softball team. They are joined by Edinburgh’s MacKenzie Bieker, Gracie Crawhorn and Kyah Streeval and South Decatur’s Loryn Pate.

Meanwhile, Dan Wenning and Sariina Kalli, were named MHC Boys and Girls Track Coaches of the Year after leading South Decatur to conference titles in those sports.

Cole, Foster named East co-MVPs, All-HHC

Juniors Kaylee Cole and Kenzie Foster have been named co-MVPs of the Columbus East softball team.

Savanna Sullivan was named Most Improved. Foster and Mackenzie Sigman were recognized as captains.

Meanwhile, Cole and Foster also have been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference team, along with Jennings County senior Delaynee McCreary and sophomore Kenzie Matern. East’s Addy Ross and Jennings’ Abby McDonald made honorable mention.

North to host Golf for the Gridiron

Columbus North football will host its Golf for the Gridiron fundraiser Friday at Otter Creek. Registration is at 11 a.m., the golf scramble is at noon and dinner and awards are at 5 p.m.

Cost is $100 per player with option to purchase supertickets or $500 per foursome, including supertickets. Hole sponsorship signs are available for $250, and a Fore! The Dogs Package, which includes four golfers, supertickets, hole sponsor and recognition at the event and throughout the season, can be purchased for $1,000.
