Joan J. (Lynas) Kline, 95, of Columbus passed from this life on July 16, 2022.

Joan was born on September 4,1926 in Logansport, Indiana to Joseph and Margaret Lynas. She graduated from New Waverly High School in 1944. She married Charles L. Kline on July 20, 1945, at First Presbyterian Church, Logansport, IN.

Joan worked for the General Tire Co. of Logansport, and after her children were born, returned to college earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Indiana University – Kokomo. She taught school for 17 years at McKinley and Franklin Elementary in Logansport. In 1978 she and her husband became the managers of Tippecanoe Baptist Camp in North Webster, Indiana. This was a ministry they enjoyed for nearly ten years.

In retirement Joan was active with the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of Indiana, Active Baptist Campers, square dancing, mission trips &tours to Haiti, Guatemala, and Israel, Book Buddies, winters in Florida, and keeping up with her growing family.

Joan was formerly a member of the Miami Baptist Church of Adamsboro and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus. In addition to living in Columbus since 2008, Joan previously resided in Bloomington and Logansport, IN. She and her Golden Doodle Max were residents of the Four Seasons Retirement community since December of 2015.

Survivors include her children, Mike (Kathy) Kline of Oconomowoc, WI, Sharon (Dave) Raypole of Columbia City, IN, Kay (Marcus) Snyder of Peru, IN, Dave (Nancy) Kline of Auburn, IN, Lori (Dan) Cash of Columbus, and Robyn (Phil) Embry of Bedford, IN.

In addition, Mrs. Kline is survived by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, with two on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles L. Kline who died on June 5, 1992, and her sister Mary Ellen Applegate.

A memorial service in celebration of Joan’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Columbus (3300 Fairlawn Dr.) on July 30, 2022, at 2 p.m. Friends may call from Noon until the time of the service. A reception will be held following the service.

A graveside committal service will be held at 3 p.m., July 31 at Bethel Cemetery, 150 N 340 E Clay Township, Logansport, IN.

Memorial contributions may be given to Tippecanoe Baptist Camp, Book Buddies of BCSC School Corporation, or American Baptist Women’s Ministries of Indiana.
