The American Red Cross has seen a 20% drop in blood donations going into August and is putting out a call seeking donors to make up the shortage.
Type O negative blood donors are especially needed now.
As an incentive to donate, those who give blood between Aug. 1 and 31 will be automatically entered for a chance to win gasoline for a year, a $6,000 value. The prize will go to three winners. Those who give blood in August will also receive a $10 e-gift card for a merchant of their choice.
Donors may schedule an appointment to donate using the Red Cross Blood donor App, by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 800-733-2767.
