TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Even as Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, continued to justify on social media that there was nothing wrong with posting a quote from Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels on his Facebook page, Lucas went to the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center Thursday, after they criticized him about the post.

Officials there said Lucas came to visit CANDLES on his own accord, eager to learn more about the museum, Eva Kor, and the lessons of the Holocaust.

Officials there also said it was a positive visit, and “we shared a great conversation about the importance of Holocaust education in Indiana. We better understand the events that unfolded earlier this week and appreciate opportunities to build stronger communities through conversations like we had today,” according to a press release from CANDLES.

“I am very appreciative of Rep. Lucas for visiting CANDLES,” said Troy Fears, executive director. “And for his efforts to find out why we found his recent social media post problematic. We are always happy to engage in conversations that lead to a greater understanding of the Holocaust.”
