Selfless service is the heartbeat of the Day of Caring

From the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds to Foundation For Youth, the 325 volunteers for United Way of Bartholomew County’s annual Day of Service on Friday made their selfless impact known.

They built ramps, helped with set-up for the annual Columbus Scottish Festival, assisted at Sans Souci, helped at the Cheer Fund building and much more, according to organizers.

The yearly activity is part of United Way’s kickoff of its fundraising campaign to support area nonprofits that touch the lives of more than a third of Bartholomew County residents, according to figures. Those nonprofits lead mentoring programs for youth, sponsor recreational sports leagues, help older residents with exercise programs, provide struggling families with everything from clothing to furniture, equip weary parents with child care classes, and train the underemployed for their next-level job.

The Day of Caring allows United Way agencies and others to be even better stewards of their budgets while also building stronger relationships with a wider gathering of supporters.
