Banaschak joins surgery center

Dr. Cory Banaschak

Columbus-based Southern Indiana Surgery has named Dr. Cory Banaschak, D.O., as a general surgeon.

After receiving his bachelor of science from IUPUI, Banaschak received his doctor of osteopathic medicine from Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He most recently served in the development of the Ascension St. Vincent General Surgery Residency Robotics Curriculum, online and hands-on curriculum of robotic surgery in coordination with Intuitive, one of the pioneers of robotic-assisted surgery.

Banaschak’s research experience includes a publication in the Journal of Clinical and Medical Research on minimizing a retained foreign body in hernia repair using a novel technique, Reinforced Biologic Augmented Repair (ReBAR); a publication in the British Journal of Surgery on two-year outcomes of robotic assisted ReBAR in inguinal hernias; and a presentation with the Midwest Surgical Association on ReBAR of a ventral hernia using minimally-invasive technique.
