Hauser boys win MHC

SHELBYVILLE — Hauser took two of the top three spots in the boys race to win the team title in Saturday’s Mid-Hoosier Conference meet at Blue River Park.

The Jets scored 53 points to 59 for runner-up Southwestern (Shelby). South Decatur finished fourth with 75.

The Hauser girls edged South Decatur 43-44 for second in the girls meet. North Decatur won with 33.

In the boys race, the Jets’ Colin Kistler and Nolan Dailey finished second and third in 18 minutes, 21.08 seconds and 18:23.20 for 5000 meters (3.1 miles). Ledger Gelfius took 15th in 21:03.60, while Collin Buck was 19th (21:28.94) and Kase Meister 20th (21:35.37).

South Decatur’s Donovan Hale and Conner Newby finished eighth and ninth in 19:54.24 and 19:57.04. Chase Kalli was 14th (20:52.59), Damian Jackson 23rd (21:45.80) and Jack Hamilton 27th (22:16.38).

Edinburgh’s lone boys runner, Irving Luis-Orozco, finished 16th in 21:04.65.

Lucie Asher led the Hauser girls with a fourth-place finish in 25:04.00. Madison Hollman took seventh in 25:13.25, while Amanda Steward was 10th (26:01.26), Reiss Kistler 20th (32:45.83) and Bronwyn Newcomb 21st (34:46.83).

South Decatur was led by a ninth-place finish from Clair Schoettmer in 25:38.28. Elizabeth Flessner was 12th (27:18.77), Maria Nobbe 14th (26:18.39), Brayley Sundal 15th (28:24.95) and Sami Storm 16th (28:26.72).

Edinburgh had four girls runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Shyleigh Goble finished 19th in 31:36.51, while Katie Hardman was 22nd (34:50.99), Lilli Goff 24th (38:48.11) and Alanna Hobbs 25th (45:05.65).

Panther boys second

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County finished third and Columbus East sixth in the boys meet, and the Panthers and Olympians were third and fourth in the girls meet in Jennings’ Ray Gerkin Invitational on Saturday.

Roncalli won the boys meet with 36 points for 63 for the Panthers and 67 for Seymour. Roncalli took the girls meet with 28 points to 49 for Seymour, 84 for Jennings and 89 for the Olympians.

Kraedyn Young led the Panther boys with a third-place finish in 17:08.68. Eli Wahlman took fourth in 17:10.04, while Noah McFall was 12th (18:06.48), Dawson Leak 19th (18:26.40) and Zachary Wahlman 25th (18:30.94).

East was led by a 16th-place finish from Jackson Brookes in 18:21.54. Chris Gilroy took 33rd in 19:03.74, while Jacob Peeples was 43rd (19:22.71), Lorren Westerfeld 46th (19:25.27) and Cayden Lynott 53rd (19:30.85).

Halle Franks led the Jennings girls with a sixth-place finish in 21:11.05. Avery Willhite took 10th in 21:31.48, while Molly Wathen was 21st (22:19.17), Taylor Leak 25th (22:38.75) and Haley Vogel 32nd (23:25.37).

Carly Otte finished seventh in 21:11.92 to lead the Olympians. Chloe Krueger took ninth in 21:30.11, while Madison Swartzentruber was 19th (22:16.42), Riley Carothers 28th (22:49.31) and Jami Porter 37th (24:13.06).

GIRLS SOCCER

East blanks Bulldogs

NEW ALBANY — Norah Dwenger netted two goals and an assist, and Columbus East remained unbeaten in the Hoosier Hills Conference with a 5-0 win Saturday at New Albany.

Sydney Berkemeier had one goal and one assist, and Nadia Harris and Taylor Scott each scored one goal for the Olympians (5-3-3, 3-0-1). Maggie Mathews had two assists, and Allison Craig added one assist.

East outshot the Bulldogs 29-3. Anna Liimatta posted one save in the first half, and Kate Stiles did not face a shot on goal while playing the second half.

Panthers edge Shiners

RISING SUN — Jennings County and Rising Sun each managed five shots on goal Saturday, but the Panthers were able to convert one to claim a 1-0 victory.

Abby McDonald scored off an assist from Chloe Franks for Jennings (4-7-1). Alayna Phillips recorded seven saves.

BOYS TENNIS

North downs Floyd

No. 6 Columbus North won four matches in straight sets Saturday in a 4-1 win against No. 15 Floyd Central.

Hank Lin beat Ben Lammert 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Steven Sun topped Preston Bickel 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (15-2). Amrit Kar and Anvay Atram downed Jeremy Mueller and Braden Poe 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Parth Shah and Parth Gupta defeated Nathaniel Hynes and Joe Howell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

North’s Austin Clark fell to Riley Doddridge 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Olympians go 1-2

Columbus East went 1-2 in Saturday’s East Invitational, falling to Providence 5-0, beating Trinity Lutheran 3-2 and falling to Evansville Memorial 5-0.

Erik Takahashi at No. 1 singles, Matthew Degner at No. 2 singles and Henry Ulrich and Tyler Ernst at No. 2 doubles won for the Olympians (6-12) against Trinity.

Lancer, Jets All-MHC

WALDRON — Three local players earned All-MHC honors after finishing runner-up at their positions on Saturday.

Edinburgh’s Max Blandford finished second at No. 1 singles, and Hauser’s Levi Gollmer and Huter Pappano took second at No. 2 singles. This is Gollmer’s fourth All-Conference honor.

The Lancers’ Austin Brockman at No. 2 singles and Milas Burkman at No. 3 singles also finished second in their brackets. Waldron won all five positions.

Panthers finish 1-2

WHITELAND — Jennings County went 1-2 in Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational, falling to Shelbyville 3-2, beating Batesville 3-2 and falling to No. 28 Whiteland 3-2.

Owen Law went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 with Justin Ramey at No. 1 doubles. Parker Bales went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 singles.

Ramey also won a No. 1 doubles match with Ryan Schuck for the Panthers (12-6).

VOLLEYBALL

Hauser goes 2-2

LAWRENCEBURG — Hauser went 2-2 in Saturday’s Lawrenceburg Invitational. The Jets fell to Rising Sun 12-25, 25-23, 16-14, beat Rushville 25-13, 25-12, lost to Jennings County 25-23, 25-23 and beat Southwestern (Shelby) 27-25, 25-18.

Adrianna Musillami led Hauser (15-6) with 82 assists and seven aces. Kenze Bostic pounded 27 kills, Aniston Bostic had nine blocks and Kyra Meister notched 73 digs.

Also for Hauser, Charlie Clark tallied 24 kills and 38 digs, Aniston Bostic had 22 kills and Kenze Bostic added six blocks and six aces. Meister recorded three assists and five aces, Mattie Foster had one assist and 28 digs and Paige McDaniel added two blocks.

Crusaders fall twice

Columbus Christian fell to Legacy Christian 13-25, 17-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-13 on Friday and lost to Pleasant View Christian 25-10, 25-12, 25-12 on Saturday.

Anika Jenkins recorded four kills and four blocks, and Emma Murray had five digs and two aces to lead the Crusaders (4-9) against Pleasant View. Emma Sewell tallied five assists. Grace Johnson three digs, Eden Ridder three digs, Alexys Murray all notched three digs.

Jenkins led Columbus Christian with 11 kills, two blocks, six digs and nine aces against Legacy. Grace Johnson had 15 assists and six aces, and Sewell notched six digs. Alexys Murray added five kills, four digs and four aces.

GIRLS GOLF

Jennings wins sectional

MADISON — Sophia Curry won medalist honors with a 78 to lead Jennings County to the Madison Sectional title Saturday at Sunrise. The Panthers finished with a 391 team total.

Alexis Carson carded a 90 for Jennings. Lauren Galvan added a 103, Rachael Manning shot 120 and Shelby Davis had a 124.

FOOTBALL

Lancers take first loss

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh endured its first loss of the season on Friday, a 44-20 setback against North Daviess.

After falling behind 20-0, Caleb Murphy threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Bryant, and Caley Dewey returned an interception 36 yards for a score. The Lancers (4-1) trailed 28-14 at halftime.

Bryant ran 18 yards for Edinburgh’s final touchdown.

Panthers fall to Cubs

MADISON — Jennings County led 27-14 at halftime Friday, but Madison rallied for a 49-33 HHC win.

Sam Burkman threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 61 yards and two scores for the Panthers (1-4, 0-3). Brendan Braun ran for 115 yards and a touchdown, Parker Elmore caught four passes for 86 yards and a score and Lane Kirchner caught a TD pass.

Blaine Ison recorded eight tackles, and Kirchner had an interception to lead the defense.

Cougars win big

GREENSBURG — South Decatur jumped out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter and went on to post a 55-20 win Friday against Cincinnati Hillcrest Academy

Corbin Johnson carried 17 times for 201 yards and three touchdowns for the Cougars (2-3). Rhett Martin ran for 67 yards and one score, Tyler Bishop had 52 yards and one touchdown and Brady Lane ran for 43 yards and two scores.

South Decatur threw the ball only once, but that was a 39-yard touchdown from Drake Skaggs to Alex Myers.

Vikings top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County fell behind 27-0 at halftime Friday and went drop a 41-12 Western Indiana Conference decision to West Vigo.

The Eagles (0-5, 0-2) got on the board late in the third quarter when Noah Lewis hit Brady Bond with a 24-yard touchdown pass. Kody Shugars returned a fumble 40 yard for a score on the final play of the game.
