Sound and Spirit advances to semi-state

Columbus East and North’s combined marching band is headed to the next round of state competitions.

The Sound and Spirit of Columbus is advancing to semi-state after its performance at the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) Open Class regional competition on Saturday at Center Grove High School in Greenwood.

Columbus competes in ISSMA’s Open A division. There were 23 Open A bands competing at regionals, with 11 performing at Carroll High School in Ft. Wayne and 12 at Center Grove.

The top 10 bands in the Open A division from each site will now participate in the Open Class Semi-State Marching Band Festival on Oct. 29 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Columbus is scheduled to perform at 4:15 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students and preschoolers.

The top 10 bands from the Open A semi-state competition will then compete at the ISSMA State Marching Band Finals on Nov. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
