BUTLERVILLE
George Louis Rafferty, 77, of Butlerville, passed away at 4:23 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born September 6, 1945, in Columbus, he was the son of Hurna and Eva (Cline) Rafferty. He married Mary Runyon in June of 1996; she survives.
George served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam. He worked repair in Auto Body Shops in Columbus, Seymour, North Vernon and Chicago, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving with his wife, Mary Rafferty; are stepson, David Lee (Devonna) Smith of Glasgow, Kentucky; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Carol (Brian) DeBord, of Freetown, and Mary Ellen Hounshell, of Glasgow, Kentucky; sister, Alice Brumfield of Texas; twelve step grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, Charles Smith; brothers, Morris, Merril, Mark, Marvin, and Clifford “Tiny” Wayne Rafferty; and sisters, Mary Margaret Riddle, and Neatha Jean Allen.
A funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Memorials may be made in honor of George through the funeral home to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
