Local soccer, volleyball players earn Academic All-State honors

The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association recently released its Academic All-State teams.

For the girls, Columbus East’s Sydney Berkemeier, Allison Craig, Elizabeth Deckard, Norah Dwenger, Ruth Federle, Nadia Harris, Kylie Hatcher, Sophia Leach, Anna Liimatta, Maggie Matthews, Heidi Murphy, Emma Patterson, Hallie Randle, Isabella Saldivar, Alexis Spurgeon, Kira VanValkenburg, Erin Walters and Mercedes Wills made the team, along with Columbus North’s Lauren Barker, Sarah Fulp, Valeria Gomez, Natalie Ho, Chloe LaVelle, Charlotte Loheide, Maddi Rutan and Riley Schumm. Jennings County’s Danna Gordillo Rosas, Cheyeanna Leslie and Abby McDonald and Trinity Lutheran’s Emma Myers also were selected.

On the boys side, selections included Columbus East’s Henry Bush, Pete Coriden, Benjamin Eikenbary and Cam Trueblood; Columbus North’s Derek Arau, Nico Gotoh, Anthony Johnson, Flynn Keele, Sam Loheide, Aidan Whitley and Michael Wolf; Jennings County’s Nathan Davis and Brown County’s Bradley Arndt, Eli Webb and Ely Wesley.

Locals make IHSVCA Academic All-State

The Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association announced its All-Academic Team on Monday.

Columbus East’s Gabby Dean, Maddie Cline and Kenzie Foster; Columbus North’s Rylie Boezeman, Grace Barkes and Emily Stair; Hauser’s Adrianna Musillami, Charlie Clark and Kyra Meister; Jennings County’s Lydia Roth, Megan Vogel and Zoie Suhre; Brown County’s Abigail Watson, Lizzie Roush, Milly Patrick and Londyn Koester; South Decatur’s Sophia Bushhorn and Trinity Lutheran’s Bailey Tabeling all earned the Gold Award.

North’s Logan Branstetter and Emma Burns and Jennings’ Taylor Mowery earned the Silver Award.

To be eligible for the Gold Award, students must obtain at least a 3.75 GPA, and for the Silver, at least a 3.5 GPA.

ISCA All-District teams announced

The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association recently released its All-District teams. On the girls side, Columbus North’s Lauren Barker and Mallory Gilley and Columbus East’s Norah Dwenger made the All-District 4 Team.

For the boys, North’s Christian Cardoso, Anthony Johnson and Aidan Whitley made the All-District 4 Team. North’s Flynn Keele and East’s Cam Trueblood were named to the second team.

ISCA Top Team Players for the girls are East’s Allison Craig, North’s Charlotte Loheide, Jennings’ Madelyn McIntosh and Trinity’s Emma Myers. Boys Top Team Players include East’s Gui Silva Coelho, North’s Eduardo Cardova, Jennings’ Nathan Davis and Brown County’s Calaen Stanley.

Locals headed to play at IUPUC

Columbus North senior goalkeeper Mallory Gilley recently announced her commitment to continue her soccer career at IUPUC. She recorded 73 saves and 16 goals allowed this season.

Brown County senior Abigail Watson made her commitment to play volleyball at IUPUC. She led the Eagles with 255 kills and 31 blocks this season.
