Local man accused of battery on a law enforcement officer during arrest

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested Saturday afternoon on several charges after officers responded to a disturbance involving an intoxicated person. At approximately 3:45 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 1400 block of Pearl Street in regards to a report of two people fighting. When officers arrived, they detained a man who was holding a nearly empty bottle of vodka. The man, who was identified as Dustin W. Arp, 33, of Columbus, had slurred speech and appeared to be intoxicated, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Arp was placed under arrest and he later head-butted a CPD officer who was attempting to place him in the back of a patrol vehicle, Harris said. Arp was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for jail clearance and later remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
–Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
–Resisting Law Enforcement
–Disorderly Conduct
–Public Intoxication
