Barbara Hager

Barbara Grace Hager passed away on November 19, 2022, at Four Seasons. She was the youngest of the five children born to Harry and Cecilia Hall at her birth on July 12, 1931, in the coastal town of Phoebus, VA (now part of the greater Hampton area). As a teenager, her family relocated to Columbia, SC. After finishing school she began working for the Red Cross. While doing volunteer work for the Catholic Archdiocese she met Francis Hager who had recently returned from Korea and was stationed at Fort Jackson. They were married on Oct 5, 1955, in Columbia, SC. They spent 9 months in St. Louis, MO before relocating to Tioga, ND. When Francis decided to pursue an engineering degree they moved their three young children to Fort Wayne, IN. Upon finishing his engineering degree, work at Indiana Institute of Technology (Now Indiana Tech University) he accepted a position with Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. Their family of five children eventually expanded to six. Both Barbara and Francis were highly active in St. Columba Parish (now St. Bartholomew). She served as president of the Altar Guild and was a volunteer at the school. When their youngest child started school, she took a position as school secretary at All Saints School (now St. Bartholomew). She loved her job at the school where she worked for twelve years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis Hager, May 8, 2020 and her siblings Harry Hall, Irene Riesbeck, Annette Simpkins and Cecilia Robinson as well as her first daughter, Barbara Francis Hager, who died shortly after birth. She is survived by her children Camilla Gehring and Tim Hager of Columbus, Veronica Kagley of Texas, Michele Hager-Harrison-Prado of Missouri, Bridget Mitchell of Michigan and Damian Hager of Lima, Peru. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren who are Jill Farrell, Scott Collyer, John Kagley, Dominic and William Gehring, Sarah and Matthew Hager, Emily Mitchell and Xavier Hager and two great grandchildren who are Codi and Casey Farrell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating.

A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to time of service.

A rosary service will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at the church.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Four Seasons Foundation (BHI Foundation).
