Pastor Roger F. Lee Sr.

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Pastor Roger F. Lee Sr., 95, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 6:01 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department.

Pastor Lee was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, January 21, 1927, the son of the late Gordon R. and Mary F. Melton Lee. On October 20, 1945, in Columbus, Roger married Louise Burton; she preceded him in death March 15, 2006.

Pastor Lee was a United States veteran. From 1944-1945, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and from 1955-1957 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. After his honorable discharge, Pastor Lee served in the National Guard from 1957-1959 and was a chaplain with the Army Reserves from 1960-1990.

Pastor Lee was an ordained minister in the 6th Street Association of General Baptist. He was the longtime pastor at 6th Street General Baptist Church in Columbus.

Pastor Lee did many things during his working career; his trades included electrician, plumber, carpenter, sheet metal machinist, welder, and tool maker.

Pastor Lee will be remembered by his sons, Roger “Butch” (Mary) Lee Jr. of Columbus and Jerry L. (Diana) Lee of Columbus; daughter, Patricia L. (Gary) Fields of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Judy Lee of Columbus; grandchildren, Kenya Bennett of Greenwood, Amy (Douglas) Biddinger of Columbus, Angela (Roger) Barr of Columbus, and Brandon Fields of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Justin, Morgan, Joshua, Gavin, Emilee, Nathan, Isaac, Abigail, and Isabelle; and great-great grandchildren, Hunter, Jorden, Jeremiah, Alex, and Brexley.

Pastor Lee was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise; son, Reverend Kenneth R. Lee; great-grandson, Jacob; and siblings, Allen Lee, Kinley Lee, Velma Hoskinson, Anna Mae Grider, Herbert Lee, and James Lee; and two infant brothers.

The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; the Reverend Ron Hampton and Reverend Don Hacker will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Lee will be laid to rest next to his wife in Section 80 at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the 6th Street General Baptist Church.
