East girls hoops earns exemplary report

The Columbus East girls basketball players and coaches earned an exemplary behavior report following their game win against Brownstown Central on Nov. 22.

The award is presented by the IHSAA to players, coaches or teams that demonstrate great sportsmanship in a professional and respectful manner.

Joshua Spears, who was one of the officials in the Brownstown game, wrote in the report, “The entire Columbus East girls basketball team exhibited the epitome of sportsmanship. The players always offered a hand to help out a fallen opposing player, always thanked officials every time they were handed the ball, and treated every participant with the utmost respect. If all teams behaved in this manner there would not be a lack of officials. The Columbus East girls basketball program represents everything that should be represented in scholastic athletics, and they bring great credit to their school and community.”
