Gifted musicians, singers to shine Saturday with Philharmonic

Vocalist Carrie Greening of Nashville, Tennessee, will be guest vocalist at the matinee performance of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic on Saturday.

Gifted vocalists and musicians will shine and shimmer like Christmas tinsel at the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s pair of Holiday Pops concerts Saturday at Clarence E. Robbins Auditorium, 230 S. Marr Road.

There are two concerts scheduled that day – 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Both concerts will feature the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Chorus and the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir.

The concert this year includes a special guest conductor, Brian Eads. In addition to his guest conducting career, he also has been the music Director for the United States tour of the musical “Les Miserables.”

The matinee performance will feature special guest soloist Carrie Greening. The Nashville, Tennessee, native and has been featured as a soloist in a number of performances. She has worked as a background vocalist and studio session vocalist and has performed on many Nashville stages, including Bridgestone Arena and the Fisher Center. Some of her favorite performances include joining duet partner BeBe Winans in a Christmas concert and leading a featured choir on Alabama’s 50th Anniversary Tour. She currently serves as a worship leader at Brentwood Baptist Church.

Greening has worked with Eads on a number of previous collaborations.

The evening performance will feature local favorite and two-time Grammy Award winner Sylvia McNair of Bloomington. McNair is among the best-known vocalists to Philharmonic audiences through the years and has performed with the world’s top ensembles in both the opera and orchestral worlds. She last performed with the local orchestra in May at David Bowden’s final concert as Philharmonic artistic director.

McNair has worked with Eads a number of times and enjoys a friendship with him.

“We are happy she is coming out of retirement for one special holiday performance,” said Donnie Robinette, the Philharmonic’s executive director.

The program for the concerts includes classics such as “The First Noel” and “O Holy Night,” along with more contemporary favorites such as “Mary Did You Know?” “Frozen” and “Home Alone Suite.”
