Brinegar takes third in Pro Series Knoxville 1,500 freestyle

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Michael Brinegar finished third in the men’s 1,500-meter freestyle Saturday on the final day of the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series Knoxville event.

Brinegar finished in 15 minutes, 28.17 seconds. Tokyo Olympic champion Bobby Finke won in 15:06.53, and Ahmed Hafnaoui took second in 15:07.7.

On Wednesday night, Brinegar finished fifth in the 800 freestyle in 8:03.69.

Brinegar, a Columbus native who is training at Ohio State University, was competing in his first pool races since last year’s NCAA Championships, when he competed for Indiana University. These were his first long-course (meters) races since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where he finished 17th in both the 800 freestyle and 1,500 freestyle.
