East’s Stahl named District 3 Player of Week

Columbus East senior Saige Stahl has been named Indiana Basketball Coaches Association District 3 Girls Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Stahl went 13 of 15 from the field and led the Olympians with 29 points, nine rebounds and four steals in an 81-60 loss to Bedford North Lawrence. She went 12 of 16 from the field and finished with 32 points, three rebounds, two assists and seven steals in a 68-44 win at Eastern (Pekin). Stahl then went 14 of 18 from the field in putting up a career-high 37 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and five steals in an 80-55 win at New Albany.

The 6-foot-1 forward and Indiana State recruit is the first two-time winner this year for District 3 Girls Player of the Week. She also was honored the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 3.

McDonald to retire at end of season

Columbus North softball coach Ron McDonald has announced this coming season will be his last.

This will be McDonald’s sixth season with the Bull Dogs, not including the COVID-canceled 2020 season. He led North to a sectional title in 2019 and a regional crown in 2021, as well as Conference Indiana titles those years and in 2022.

McDonald had coached at Brown County from 2012-14, leading the Eagles to Western Indiana Conference titles his first two years. He previously had coached boys basketball, baseball and football at various levels in Columbus, Taylorsville and Brown County.

North, East bowlers advance to regional

The Columbus North girls bowling team the three individuals each from North and Columbus East have qualified for Saturday’s Jasper Regional with top finishes in the Greensburg Sectional.

The North girls team consists of Lexie Jones, Ragan Mathis, Savannah Steele, Victoria Carter, Emma Warnock and Kloie Douglas. Jones and Mathis finished first and second in the girls division, and East’s Lilly Lacy advanced with a third-place finish.

North’s Landon Million won the boys division. East’s Jackson Herold finished second, and Elijah Siegelin was third to also qualify for regional.

Hauser-Brownstown girls game canceled

The Brownstown Central at Hauser girls basketball game scheduled for Friday has been canceled.

The Jets will visit Morristown tonight and host North Decatur on Tuesday in a game that will decide the Mid-Hoosier Conference title.

Girls basketball draw set for Sunday

The girls basketball tournament draw will take place on Sunday.

The draw will be streamed live on ihsaatv.org beginning at 5 p.m.
