Esther Eileen Swisher, 86, whom resided with her son in Indianapolis but was formerly of Scipio, passed away at 7:12 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Canon Tom Kryder-Reid and Canon Jodi Baron will officiate. Burial will be in the Scipio Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the Eastern Star service beginning at 5:30 p.m., on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the funeral home.

Born on September 5, 1936, in Elizabethtown, she was the loving daughter of William “Bill” and Marguerite (Helt) Byford. She was united in marriage to George B. Swisher on June 26, 1955 at the Scipio Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2012.

Eileen attended grade school in Scipio and graduated from North Vernon High School in 1954. She attended Indiana Business College in Columbus, Indiana. She was a member of the Scipio Presbyterian Church, where she was the co-moderator of the church Ladies Society. She was also a member of the North Vernon Eastern Star and the Rolling Hills Shrine Club. Eileen enjoyed traveling the country with her husband, and together had traveled over the United States to attend Navy Reunions for 20 years. She retired in 1998 after 32 years of working at Reliance Electric in Columbus, Indiana. Eileen enjoyed going to lunch outings, watching T.V., and talking on the phone with her dear friends.

Eileen is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Swisher of Indianapolis, Wesley (Betty) Swisher of Granger, and Gordon (Joy) Swisher of Greenwood; brothers, Warren (Jane) Byford of Scipio, and Jim (Carol) Byford of Columbus; grandchildren, Andrew (Naomi) Swisher, Ellen Swisher, Ronnie Swisher, Tiffany Swisher, and Esmarelda Swisher; five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marguerite Byford; husband, George Swisher; brother, Harold Byford.
