Edith Arlene Vermillion Willmore

Columbus

Edith Arlene Vermillion Willmore, 95, of Columbus passed peacefully from this life on January 24, 2023 at Four Seasons Health Care Center with family by her side.

She was born September 7th, 1927, to Benjamin and Hazel Vermillion in Marion Heights, Indiana. Upon the passing of her mother, Edith moved to Vincennes and was raised by her aunt and namesake Edith Hall Hedden.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1946.

Edith married the love of her life, Richard Willmore, in 1950 and moved to Columbus, Indiana, where they remained married until his passing in 2003. They had three children, David, Cheryl, and Greg. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, shopping for antiques, and especially spending time with family.

She was an artistic soul and especially enjoyed painting porcelain china, with one of her pieces having been on display at the national porcelain art museum in Oklahoma City, OK in 1995.

She was a founding member of the Bartholomew County Porcelain Artists Guild.

In her early years she worked as a telephone operator in Vincennes, Indiana. In Columbus she worked in the office at Vernco. For many years she provided clerical support for her husband’s accounting practice. That included typing hundreds, if not thousands, of tax returns over many years prior to computer printed tax returns.

Edith was a member of First United Methodist and had been an original member of Asbury Methodist when it started in 1955.

She was active in Eastern Star until recent years and served as Worthy Matron of the Columbus Chapter in 1975.

Edith moved to Four Seasons Retirement Center in 2007, and lived there until her passing. Her family is grateful to the staff and residents of Four Seasons for the wonderful care and friendships she enjoyed in her fifteen years there, and to the hospice support staff that was so helpful the past several months.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all seven of her siblings including three brothers: Franklin, Benjamin, and Arnold; and four sisters: Roberta, Doris, Marcella, and Julia; and a great granddaughter Olivia Willmore.

She is survived by her children, David Willmore and his wife Sharman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cheryl Moffatt and her husband Steve of Columbus, Indiana, and Greg Willmore and his wife Camille of Columbus, Indiana; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Edith’s request, only a small family gathering and graveside service will be held.

She will be interred alongside her husband at Fairview Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana.

The family kindly asks that any memorials in Edith’s name be offered to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, or a charity of your choosing.
