VEVAY — Milan kept things close with Hauser, but a strong run in the second half lifted the Jets to a 53-46 girls basketball win in the semifinal round of the Switzerland County Sectional.
The Jets (10-11) led 20-16 at the half, but the run late in the third quarter gave them a 34-31 lead. Hauser closed it out to keep Milan (4-19) at bay in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
“We had a real good run in the third quarter,” Hauser coach Kyle Shipp said. “Kyliegh Parrott got us going with a good 3 and then another basket, and then Madelyn Poe hit a 3 at the end of the quarter. That propelled us into the fourth quarter, where we had some great ball movement, some great contributions from everybody. We talked about at the end of the game, we took care of the ball and knocked down free throws down the stretch to stretch it out and take care of business.”
Madelyn Poe led the Jets with 25 points. Adrianna Musillami added 11.
Hauser will face South Ripley, who defeated host Switzerland County 47-36 in the other semifinal, at 7 p.m. tonight for the championship. It will be a rematch from the Jets’ 58-51 loss to the Raiders Nov. 5 in the regular season.
“Three of the major keys for us is good energy, taking care of the rebounding game. We’re going to have to make sure we take care of the paint and then taking care of the basketball,” Shipp said. “We’ve got to win the turnover war. If we do those three things, we’re going to find ourselves right in the basketball game down the stretch.”
