HARTSVILLE, Ind. — Bartholomew County officials are looking for leads on who was involved in the shooting death of a dog on the side of the road in Hartsville.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department responded to information about a “young, adult male, black and white pit mix” on Feb. 23, according to a recent social media post from the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

“This dog was found tied to a tree and shot to death,” shelter officials wrote. “This boy was not microchipped, nor did he have identification on his collar. He was killed by the side of the road on County Road 1150E in Hartsville, and his body was left behind by an unknown person or persons.”

Anyone who recognizes the canine’s collar or leash or has any information about the crime is urged to contact the sheriff’s department at 812-379-1650 or the Bartholomew County prosecutor at 812-379-1670.

The Bartholomew County Humane Society said it is working with a national affiliate to put out a reward for providing information on this matter. The details of this are still being determined.
