College sports briefs: McIntosh strikes out 13

Kyler McIntosh struck out 13 batters in seven innings Saturday to lead Alabama State to a 9-2 win against Lindenwood in the second game of a doubleheader.

McIntosh, a sophomore from Columbus North, was within one strikeout of the single-game school record, which is held by his older brother Hunter when he was hit on the shin by a line drive and had to leave the game. Kyler now is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA and is batting .355 with a home run, nine RBIs and 13 runs scored for the Hornets (10-8).

Meyer picks up save

Jakob Meyer pitched two innings of relief to earn the save Saturday in Evansville’s 5-3 win at Middle Tennessee.

Meyer, a senior from Columbus North, now is 0-1 with a save and a 4.82 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched for the Aces (9-7).

Schiavello shines in loss

Nick Schiavello recorded 10 points, four rebounds and three assists Saturday in Wheaton’s 76-70 loss to second-ranked Christopher Newport in the NCAA Division II Sectional final in Newport News, Virginia.

Schiavello, a junior from Columbus North, had 13 points and six rebounds in Friday’s 74-67 win over St. Joseph (Connecticut). He avearged 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Thunder (25-5).
